Whether you're a new fan or a rom-com veteran, you'll find KaoMiah's "Halfmates" to be such a lovable show, with all the kilig and good vibes it serves up.

Kaori Oinuma and Jeremiah Lisbo's new RCD Narratives-produced digital series, about two adults forced to stay in the same house due to a ‘double sale’ scam, delivers exactly what you'd want for a cozy binge—playful romance, relatable adulting lessons, and that irresistible cat and dog’ dynamic we're all head over heels for!

Three episodes in, and we're in love!

Episode 1 does not waste time on unnecessary drama, kicking things off from Kaori’s perspective as Dani, whose bubbly, determined personality shines right from her first few seconds on screen. Fresh from her life as a former nurse in New Zealand (and part-time vlogger), she’s finally back in the Philippines, thrilled to move into her dream house.

As soon as she arrives, Dani’s first order of business? A quick live vlog to share her excitement, followed by rolling up her sleeves and giving the entire house a good clean. Later that night, her older sister (Pamu Pamorada) calls to check in, expressing the same affection you'd expect from a close-knit family. She even gently scolds Dani for not letting them help her move in. This little moment already hints at Dani’s independent nature, especially when her sister brings up an ex, Ronnie. But Dani is quick to brush it off, confident that she's more than capable of handling things on her own. Besides, she says, Ronnie has long been out of her life–this bubbles up our curiosity, right?

The pilot immediately sets up an endearing clash of personalities between Kaori’s Dani and Jeremiah's James, a reserved, no-nonsense accountant who’s also thrilled about finally buying his own place. But just as he moves in, he’s shocked to find Dani already inside, equally convinced she owns the house!

Here comes the first round of 'bangayan,' with Dani and James accusing each other of being thieves. It's clear they couldn't be more different. James skims through their property titles, spotting the red flags in their transactions faster than you can say “scam alert.” But never mind the legal matters—Dani is too busy processing the shock of a stranger barging into her home.

With neither of them wanting to back down, they end up sleeping in the same house, which they both claim to be their property.

On top of this chaotic but hilarious mix-up, there’s also a subtle layer of intrigue around James' personal life, as his girlfriend, Joane, whom he only met through their quick exchange of phone messages, wasn’t able to help him move due to a last-minute work emergency, hinting at some tension in their relationship.

Episode 2 opens with the hilarious aftermath of Dani and James’s forced ‘housemate’ situation, aka their first morning in the house. Both of them try to act casual, giving each other some major side-eye and pretending not to care as they ask where the other one is headed. Of course, neither wants to admit they’re both planning to hit up a law office to sort out the ownership drama, so they both make up random excuses before racing out the door, each trying to get there first. But when they finally arrive, the joke’s on them—it's a long weekend, and the office is closed. Classic ‘kung-minamalas-ka-nga-naman’ moment!

Back at the house, things get even wackier as they scramble to be the first one back inside. James manages to lock Dani out, but she’s not about to let him win that easily. Dani sneaks her way back inside by climbing up to the balcony—talk about determination!

And just when you think it can’t get any funnier, they both receive deliveries of home furniture, with Dani putting on an exaggerated show for the delivery guy, insisting she’s the only rightful occupant of that address. She even throws in a dramatic backstory, hinting that James might be up to no good.

At this point, James has had enough of the drama and takes the high road. With a deep sigh (and a bit of that leading man appeal Jeremiah pulls off so effortlessly), he apologizes to Dani and suggests they team up to fix this ownership mess. It’s a mature moment that sprinkles just a touch of warmth into the scene, and seeing him reach out to shake hands with Dani is a pure swoon-worthy move. Let's just say, Jeremiah’s laid-back energy is absolutely ‘nakaka-in love’, while Kaori’s reaction is beyond adorable!

And, of course, in true K-Drama fashion, they leave us on a cliffhanger, with Dani staring at his hand, making you wonder if she’ll finally agree to work together.

Episode 3 of, fittingly titled “House Rules,” dials up the kilig as Dani and James reluctantly agree to cohabit while sorting out the ownership mess. But, of course, it’s not without Dani’s OA fears that James might be some kind of serial killer. To calm her down, he presents his proof of identity, which Dani finally accepts—though not without some serious side-eye.

The episode then cuts to James, who’s in a bit of a pickle himself, thinking about how to explain his new living arrangement to his girlfriend, Joane, who’s conveniently out of town for work. Just as he’s figuring out what to say, Dani comes in, all feisty, with her list of house rules.

But James isn’t about to let Dani have the last word. In a move that’s equal parts reasonable and hilarious, he tweaks her rules and adds his own, like banning clutter in the house. (His silent frustration at seeing Dani’s clothes—and yes, her undergarments—strewn around is so on point.)

If you’ve caught Episode 3, which just dropped last Friday, then congratulations, because Jeremiah’s magnetic charm has probably just revived your cold heart in that one scene where he teases Dani by walking to his room half-naked with just a towel wrapped around his waist. Dani? Totally frozen, eyes glued to his abs! Later on, in an extended cut, we see James not letting Dani's reaction slide, casually asking, “Okay ka lang?” knowing exactly what effect he’s having on her. Dani’s flustered reaction is priceless as she stomps back to her room, while James sneaks a smug little peek with that satisfied smile.

From one riotous moment to the next, James is absolutely horrified when Dani sets up her snack bar business in the garden, where he originally planned to enjoy his quiet moments. The garden, which is supposed to be James’s sacred space, is now an explosion of Dani’s chaotic energy.

But the real chaos kicks in when a construction worker informs them of a visitor at the gate. James, thinking it’s Joane, asks Dani to let him handle it. But when Dani learns Joane has no clue about the living arrangement, she insists on talking to her first, setting off a scramble to the gate as they each try to take control. Just as James grabs Dani’s arm to hold her back, the “visitor” is revealed to be none other than Dani’s family! Their shock at seeing her with a guy, and looking like they’re holding hands, is the perfect, hilarious cliffhanger to wrap up another episode.

"Halfmates" is serving up kilig and laughter in all the right doses, and with every episode, it’s impossible not to root for this mismatched pair and all the mayhem they bring each other’s way. Adding to the charm of "Halfmates" is the catchy bubblegum theme song "Biglaan" by Belle Mariano, which gives the scenes a fun, youthful tone.

The pacing is quick, moving from one hilarious situation to the next without unnecessary fillers. Plus, the unique inclusion of extended versions of highlight scenes at the end allows viewers to soak in their favorite moments. But let’s be real, with each episode clocking in at under 15 minutes, it’s always ‘bitin’! Just when you’re getting fully immersed, the episode ends, leaving you craving more and eagerly counting down to the next one. We seriously can't wait for Episode 4!

This serYEAH is perfect for de-stressing and is more engrossing than we had expected. It unlocks our ‘feels’ in so many ways, with loads of funny moments without taking away the burdens in life that the characters also carry.

It's refreshing to see KaoMiah in a rom-com that lets their 100% legit chemistry shine with such playful, feel-good vibes. Kaori brings her signature bubbly spirit and relatability, making her character’s quirks both endearing and believable. Meanwhile, Jeremiah's portrayal of James showcases his ability to convey subtle ‘kulit’ beneath that nonchalant exterior. It's a joy watching them complement each other on screen!
