Becoming a stellar content creator is a result of a combination of different factors, but the most important among them, according to YouTubers Kyo Quijano and Jai Agpangan, is tenacity.

In an episode of Kapamilya Chat, Kyo and Jai shared simple tips to aspiring digital influencers, starting with making the move. As Kyo put it, “If you want to start it, start now. Kasi yun ang number one na sakit ng mga gustong maging content creator. Hindi nila masimulan kasi natatakot sila, maraming competition, maraming dapat gawin. Walang mangyayari kung hindi ka magsa-start.”

Kyo’s entrance into the digital space can be credited to his best friend, who by the time was dealing with a returning ex. He teased his best friend by making a video about “10 signs kung bakit ka binabalikan ng ex mo.” A random viewer liked the content and asked him to make more, then, he turned it into a hobby or digital diary.

“I didn’t know na may career dito. Hindi ko alam na magiging career siya,” he said. Kyo was a college senior when he got fascinated with YouTube. From his first ‘trip lang’ content, he grew his followers and collaborated with other online celebrities, and is now one of the most popular on YouTube.

Jai and twin sister Joj were known as two of the bubbliest housemates in PBB Teen Edition 4. And since they love to spread good vibes, they now do it via vlogging. This reminds aspirants to stick to their purpose and enjoy the process. “Kung authentic ka naman at talagang mahal mo ‘yung ginagawa mo, talagang mala-love ka lang nila naturally… Kung gusto mo talaga, go lang, kasi lahat open naman ngayon. Kanya-kanyang trip,” she related. Her next advice to newbies is to support each other.

While others keep a content calendar, Kyo and Jai simply rely on random ideas, especially for Jai who combines vlogging with acting, “Kasi may mood ka din talaga, eh kung gusto mong gumawa. Mas maganda naman talaga ‘yung organized. Pero minsan medyo kalat din ‘yung utak namin kasi medyo busy.”

It may look easy but content-making could be a tedious task, hence the struggle with artist’s block. Kyo admits he lacks motivation sometimes, especially during the early days of the pandemic. But he thinks the best cure to loss of creativity is taking a rest.

“Kasi mental health mo ‘yun, eh. Nature ng mga content creator is grind, grind, grind hangga’t merong nanonood. Minsan nakakalimutan na ‘yung sarili at doon nagsisimula ‘yan. Mauubos ka din since labas ka nang labas ng mga content at mapapagod ka, hindi ka nakakatulog nang maayos, “he shared, adding that YouTube management also checks on its creators’ mental health.

On their dream artists to collaborate with, he thought of a mukbang session with MMK host Charo Santos and PBB’s ‘Kuya.’ Jai wishes to collaborate with Kapamilya hunk actor Gerald Anderson.
