McCoy de Leon talks about “Deleter” co-star Nadine Lustre, plus updates on his fatherhood journey

McCoy de Leon is back on the big screen, this time, to spread horror than kilig via “Deleter” topbilled by Nadine Lustre. He holds the script for an entire bubble cycle, then his family once done with taping. As much as he wants to cling to his baby Felize and partner actress Elisse Joson all the time, he knows he must get out to work for their future. He also makes sure 1-year-old Felize has a mom and dad to teach her the right ways, especially at this developmental stage where she mimics her surroundings. McCoy is conquering fatherhood and acting all at once. He is starring in the Mikhail Red techno-horror “Deleter,” which is slated to premiere on Christmas Day as part of the Metro Manila Film Festival tradition. He said their goal was to just create a masterpiece they can be proud of. But the MMFF participation is a welcome treat. While he isn’t an MMFF first-timer, having starred in Coco Martin’s “Ang Panday” (2017) and Vice Ganda’s “The Mall The Merrier” (2019), McCoy considers “Deleter” a bigger experience since he is a key player in the upcoming film. He plays Nadine’s co-worker in a content moderation office. He said his character has the point of view of a curious officemate trying to understand Nadine aka Lyra’s enigmatic world as a content moderator. Although he previously did horror via “The Heiress” starring Janella Salvador, “Deleter” is different in that it’s his first bad guy role. That’s why he took the preparations seriously – from his looks to nuances like learning the proper way to hold a cigarette since he is a non-smoker in real life. Admittedly, the fear of criticism pushed him to act his best. He had brief encounters with Nadine before but, of course, working in a film requires deeper camaraderie. He found the actress quiet just like him, which worked to his advantage in living out his character’s curiosity about Lyra. He clarified that Nadine’s silence doesn’t come off as intimidating. It’s just that she was laser-focused as Lyra.He got the same vibe from Direk Mikhail, who is quiet on the surface but has the loudest, most creative mind. In addition to that, the director was very collaborative and trustful toward his actor. They had an unspoken pact to give their best for the film. The director must take charge of the technicalities while his actors are responsible for breathing emotions into the narrative. It helped that they have previously worked together in the zombie flick “Block Z.”He went on to share Elisse’s reaction to his MMFF stint, saying his lovely partner is proud and confident of the movie’s quality. And she’s as happy as him to receive this early Christmas gift.
