Lyca Gairanod is back on Kapamilya Chat. Looking at her, we couldn’t help but be mesmerized by how grown up she is since her early days in showbiz. And what better way to reminisce than to watch her old videos? In this episode, Lyca rated and reacted to her past appearances in Kapamilya singing shows and teleseryes. First, she reviewed her iconic audition in The Voice Kids where she belted out the Aegis hit “Halik” and got a last-minute turn from her eventual coach Sarah Geronimo. Lyca gushed about her cuteness as a child performer, feeling a mix of nostalgia and joy. She said that she still watches her old videos. And looking back, she sees herself as a young fighter. “Wala talaga akong hiya sa mga ganyan. Sino man ‘yung makasabayan ko, wala, ganito ako, eh. Pinu-pursue ko na maging proud ako sa sarili ko, na kaya ko ‘to kahit ang daming magagaling.” She remembers falling in line for hours and feeling determined to give her best since it was the first The Voice Kids Philippines edition. She recounted how exhausting this live song-and-dance performance was, which was worth it because she emerged as that week’s best impersonator. Lyca revealed that altering her sound was the hardest part of the competition, especially when the icon’s voice is too different from hers. “Lahat ng mga icons na ginaya ko, sobrang nahirapan talaga ako do’n,” smiled Lyca, who once imitated Jaya and Jessa Zaragoza as well. From singing, she crossed over to acting by portraying her life story in Maalaala Mo Kaya. After watching her scene with Malou de Guzman, who played her mother, Lyca mentioned that she loves viewing this episode with her father, who still cries every time. For Lyca, it’s a reminder of all the beautiful and difficult moments that encompass her journey, as well as a reminder that God has been good. “Kapag napapanood ko siya, naiiyak pa rin ako. Nafe-feel ko na parang nando’n pa rin ako. Pinapanood ko pa rin po siya hanggang ngayon,” she shared. She further showcased her acting chops in the Kapamilya series Hawak Kamay [LINK OUT https://ent.abs-cbn.com/articles-photos/throwback-2014s-hawak-kamay-14687] where she shared scenes with Piolo Pascual and ex-child wonders Zaijian Jaranilla and Xyriel Manabat. She played Lilet, a child scavenger abused by her grandmother. Lyca mentioned that she easily resonated with her character as she also experienced picking out scraps before. Their difference is that she grew up in a love-filled home and is close to her grandma. Asked how she felt when cast in the said teleserye, she answered, “Super happy po ako kasi hindi lang naman po pagkanta ang gusto kong gawin sa showbiz. Well, pinaka-una po ‘yung pagkanta kasi doon ako nakilala pero gusto kong ma-explore ang acting.” Expanding her horizons as an artist, Lyca stars in the thriller film “Mary Cherry Chua” with Ashley Diaz.
