Officials of the MCIA led the groundbreaking ceremony for the new 2.5-kilometer runway that is expected to increase the airport&#x27;s capacity.“This will answer the decongestion issue once we get more flights for Cebu. No need for aircraft to wait for their turn for landing and take off,” says MCIA General Manager Steve Dicdican.The Department of Tourism also expects a surge in tourists as the second runway will be finished.“This will help us sell our destinations to a much wider audience,” says DOT 7 Regional Director Shalimar Tamano.The MCIA&#x27;s Terminal 2 won a World Architecture Festival <a href="https://news.abs-cbn.com/business/12/05/19/mactan-cebu-international-airport-wins-world-architecture-award">award </a>last year, beating transport stations in other countries.
