MANILA - Energy Development Corp said Monday 2 of its power plants on quake-hit Leyte Island will be on extended outage to give way to repairs.

The Tongonan and Malitbog plants require repairs to their cooling towers. While spare parts are available on site, EDC said it would also consider its workers' safety due to strong aftershocks.

Aside from the power plants, EDC said Thursday's 6.5-magnitude earthquake also damaged several circuit breakers, current transformers and ancillary switchyard equipment.

EDC said it would restore power in the area as soon as possible.
