<figure class="op-interactive"><div id="IVS_ABS_Body_Video_1_Container"> <ivs-player id="IVS_ABS_Body_Video_1" data-ivs-spid="3001339" data-ivs-key="e8c22c015ca9eafa76f1e3edfa03c603" data-ivs-vid="1382940" data-ivs-floating="1"></ivs-player> <script src="https://player.ivideosmart.com/ivsplayer/v4/dist/js/iframe-parent.js"></script> <script src="https://player.ivideosmart.com/ivsplayer/v4/dist/js/loader.js"></script> </div></figure><div class="iwantbar">Watch more in <a href="//www.iwantv.com.ph/">iWantv</a> or <a href="//tfc.tv/">TFC.tv</a></div><p>MANILA - The San Miguel Corp. unit building the Skyway extension project showed on Thursday what the tollway would look like once finished. </p><p>Skyway O&amp;M Corporation (SOMCO) said Phase 1 of the Skyway Extension project will be completed by December 2020.<br/> <br/>&quot;The project, which will extend the Skyway all the way to Susana Heights/Muntinlupa-Cavite Expressway (MCX), involves the construction of a three-lane, elevated northbound section and a two-lane, elevated southbound section that will run on either side of the South Luzon Expressway and connect to the existing Skyway,&quot; SOMCO said in a statement. </p><p>The project will raise the Skyway’s capacity by 4,500 vehicles per hour northbound, and 3,000 vehicles per hour southbound, giving motorists from Southern Luzon easier access Metro Manila, SOMCO said. </p><p>SOMCO said that once the Skyway Extension is finished, vehicles coming from south of Metro Manila will be able to take the Skyway and bypass the Alabang viaduct, even EDSA. Motorists can go directly to any destination accessible via Skyways 1, 2, and Stage 3, which is also set for full completion by next year. </p><p>These include the Ninoy Aquino International Airport, Pasay, Makati, Quezon City, all the way to Balintawak and the North Luzon Expressway.</p><p>The company said the P10-billion project would also address worsening traffic congestion on SLEX and Alabang.<br/> <br/>SOMCO, meanwhile, assured motorists that they will get a reprieve from traffic in the southbound side of the expressway by November, when heavy preliminary works are finished. </p><p>&quot;By that time, motorists will be able to use the third lane that is currently closed from ongoing construction works,&quot; SOMCO said.</p><p>Construction of the Skyway extension has worsened traffic along the SLEX, with travel time from areas south of Metro Manila now taking 3 to 5 hours.</p><p>Lawmakers have called for either a <a href="https://news.abs-cbn.com/news/10/10/19/highway-to-hell-toll-suspension-eyed-as-motorists-spend-half-a-day-in-slex-traffic">suspension</a> of toll collection or <a href="https://news.abs-cbn.com/news/10/04/19/poe-wants-slex-toll-rates-slashed-amid-daily-gridlock-in-expressway">reduction</a> in toll rates on the SLEX until traffic in the tollway returns to normal.</p>
