<p>MANILA - Energy woes continue to hound the Philippines as the Luzon and Visayas power grids were again placed on Yellow Alert on Monday, April 29.</p><p>The National Grid Corp of the Philippines said the following alerts will be in effect at these times.</p><div><br/></div><div style="line-height:1"><strong>LUZON GRID</strong></div><div style="line-height:1"><strong>Yellow Alert</strong></div><p style="line-height:1">3 p.m. - 5 p.m.</p><p style="line-height:1">8 p.m. - 11 p.m.</p><div><br/></div><div style="line-height:1"><strong>VISAYAS GRID</strong></div><div style="line-height:1"><strong>Yellow Alert</strong></div><p style="line-height:1">1 p.m. - 4 p.m.</p><p style="line-height:1">6 p.m. - 8 p.m.</p><div><br/></div><p>&quot;A yellow alert is issued when the operating margin is insufficient to meet the transmission grid’s contingency requirement,&quot; the NGCP said.</p><p>This means that rotating brownouts or localized power outages are possible.</p><p>The Luzon grid has an available capacity of 14,902 megawatts and a peak demand of 13,823 MW.</p><p>Four power plants are not operating, while one plant is operating on a lowered or derated capacity.</p><p>In the Visayas, one power plant went on an unplanned outage at around 10 a.m., and power shared through the Mindanao-Visayas interconnection also decreased. </p><p>This is the third week that the NGCP has raised alerts. Last week, the Department of Energy admitted that the situation is now a crisis. Meralco meanwhile warned that the worst was yet to come as rising temperatures cause a spike in the demand for electricity.</p>
