Jonathan Cellona, ABS-CBN News </div>MANILA - Sofitel Philippine Plaza Manila has officially closed its doors after more than four decades of operation.What was once a busy five star hotel seated along Manila Bay in Pasay City stood empty on Monday except for a few security guards patrolling the compound.Barricades blocked entry points to the hotel following the shutdown. In a Facebook post, Sofitel thanked and bode its patrons goodbye.“Your smiles and stories have left an indelible mark on our hearts. Their dedication made us a place of extraordinary gastronomic adventure and joy,” Spiral said in a Facebook post.Labor groups have been questioning the decision of Sofitel management to terminate employees to make way for renovations due to safety concerns.Senator Risa Hontiveros has filed a resolution for a Senate probe on the closure to shed light on claims that the shutdown is a move against the hotel’s labor union.
