Courtesy BIR </div>MANILA - The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) seized a vending machine in a commercial building in Scout Borromeo in Quezon City on Thursday morning for allegedly selling illicit vape products.According to Atty. Jethro Sabariaga, OIC Assistant Commissioner of BIR&#x27;s Large Taxpayers Service, a netizen gave information about the vending machine through BIR Commissioner Romeo Lumagui&#x27;s social media page.&quot;Hindi ito rehistrado, makikita nyo sa vendo machine, walang stamp. Hindi ito nagbayad ng excise taxes,&quot; Sabariaga said.(This is not registered. As you can see in the machine, there is no stamp. They did not pay excise taxes.)The entire machine and its contents were seized by officials of the BIR, saying that illicit vape products in the market pose a threat to public health.While the BIR has yet to give an estimate on the worth of seized products, the entire machine was still visibly full of vape products with different flavors.The owner of the building, who declined comment, told BIR officials that his friend only asked to place the vending machine inside the premises.However, BIR said the owner of the building should still be accountable.&quot;Dahil natagpuan ito sa kanyang premises, sa kanyang pag-aaari, pinepresume ng batas na ito ay pag-aari niya. So ang buwis na ipinapataw dito, sa kanya namin sisingilin,&quot; Sabariaga said.(We found it inside his premises, so the law presumes that this is his. The taxes for these products shall be collected from him.)&quot;Isi-seal muna natin, kukuhanin muna natin, dadalhin natin sa BIR national office at iintayin natin yung nararapat na disposal,&quot; Sabariaga added.(We will seal this, we will seize this, and we will bring it to the BIR national office for proper disposal).Aside from the BIR, the Department of Trade and Industry has also imposed stringent measures against counterfeit and illicit vape products circulating in the market.
