<div></div>MANILA - Fifty-two out-of-school youths received their certificates of completion after undergoing free training provided by YouthWorks PH.This batch of graduates, who were unemployed prior to the training, are now going to be hired by fast food company McDonald’s Philippines.YouthWorks PH is an $8.7 million program of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Philippine Business for Education (PBEd). This is an eight-year program which started in 2018.The program partners with various companies and industries to provide training for out-of-school youth aged 18 to 30. The program wants to help the youth get the right skills so they can also get the right and decent jobs.PBEd Chairman Ramon Del Rosario Jr. said “By providing access to high-quality training opportunities, we can equip more young people with the necessary skills to thrive and build a brighter future for themselves and their families.”Over 1,200 youth have benefited from the program so far with the help of educational institutions and the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA). For this particular batch, they are the first graduates for McDonald’s.“This includes a six-day intensive technical training in food beverage servicing and then may additional life skills training. And after that, we transition them into on-the-job training,” said Hanibal Camua, Chief of Party of YouthWorks PH.Camua said it is very important to give the out-of-school youth some help as many of them have not had any formal educational background or some didn’t graduate from elementary or high school. By providing them the right skills training, the youth can be given employment. And they too can decide if they want to study again.“Out-of-school youth just needs an opportunity. Kailangan bigyan ng breakthrough ang ating mga out-of-school youth so they can reach their full potential,” he added.YouthWorks PH now eyes to expand the program to more sectors and areas. It plans to partner with companies in the tourism sector like hotels, as well as in construction, banking, and even in the renewable energy sector.
