Ryan Bang’s remarkable journey from being a housemate to becoming a “Noontime Oppa”

He may not have Filipino blood, but being in the Philippines for more than a decade has made Ryan Bang Pinoy at heart. More than his striking looks, it’s his impressive sense of humor and adorable personality that won the hearts of avid Kapamilya viewers.

And now, he’s about to astonish us anew with his hosting and comedic skills as he is tapped to host, and, at the same time, be the translator, of the upcoming reality talent show Dream Maker: The Search For The Next Global Pop Group alongside It’s Showtime co-host Kim Chiu.

But before we get to see him in his newest role, let’s revisit his remarkable journey from being a reality show contestant to becoming our very own “Noontime Oppa” through this Kapamilya Spotlight feature!

Just like many of the celebrities we admire at present, his ticket to the local entertainment was by being one of the housemates of Pinoy Big Brother Teen Clash of 2010, thanks to his friend who told him to audition. He was among the 10 “Teen-ternational” housemates and eventually became James Reid’s runner-up in the end.

Due to his popularity, he was bestowed his first show titled 3ow Powhz! That aired from late 2010 until early 2011 on Studio 23. He then became one of the most favorite and long-time hurados of It’s Showtime, until he was hired to become one of its hosts up to the present. It was also on that year when he was cast in the teen variety program Shout Out and the comedy gag show Banana Split (then Banana Sundae).

He also appeared in television series, namely, Kung Ako’y Iiwan Mo (2012), Home Sweetie Home (2014), Hawak Kamay (2014), Wansapanataym Presents Yamishita’s Treasures (2015), and Sana Dalawa Ang Puso (2018), through which he’s able to show off his acting chops.

At the same time, Ryan starred in a number of big screen projects as well, such as “Every Breath U Take” (2012), “Girl Boy Bakla Tomboy” (2013), “Beauty and the Bestie” (2015), “My Ex and Whys” (2017), “Da One That Ghost Away” (2018), “Kusina Kings,” “Fantastica” (2018), “The Mall The Merrier” (2019), and “Love Is Color Blind” (2021).

Aside from his hosting and acting stints, the 31-year-old South Korean, whose real name is Bang Hyun-sung, was able to entertain and made us dance through his music, too, as released two studio albums, namely, “I Lilly Lilly Like It: Ryan Bang Party Party Hits!” in 2011 and “Shopping” in 2015.
