PAWS files formal complaint vs 'Oro'

MANILA - The Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) has filed a formal complaints against the makers of the controversial Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) entry "Oro."

PAWS executive director Anna Cabrera filed a case of violation of Republic Act 8485 (Animal Welfare Act) against director Alvin Yapan and producers Mark Shandii Bacolod, Jane Bondoc Gonzales and Arianne Dulay for the slaughter of a dog as seen in the film.

Also present in the filing of the case at the Pasig City Hall of Justice were Atty. Ronald Martin Ledesma, MMFF Marketing Committee member Ida Tiongson and actress Japo Parcero.

Yapan and Bacolod has been suspended for one year from participating in the MMFF after they were found guilty of breaching MMFF rules.

The decision was announced less than week after the controversy surrounding a dog-slaughter scene in "Oro" erupted on social media, led by complaints from PAWS.
