Blind balladeer, YouTube star soar to 'Tawag ng Tanghalan' Grand Finals

<div class="embed-wrap"><figure data-feedback="fb:likes,fb:comments"><img src="http://sa.kapamilya.com/absnews/abscbnnews/media/2017/entertainment/02/26/tawag.jpg"/></figure></div><p>A singer with a “perfect” performance and another who seemed born to be an idol made it to the Grand Finals of “Tawag ng Tanghalan” after a heated competition Saturday.</p><p>Delivering a performance so much on point that judge and veteran songster Ogie Alcasid could only say two words — “perfect” and “congratulations” — Carl Malone Montecido was the first to be called by the judges.</p><p>Blind balladeer Montecido sang a heart-tugging version of “Maghintay Ka Lamang,” an apt description of his efforts to get over hardships he had to face to get to where he is today.</p><p>&quot;Hindi ko man nakikita ang ganda ng mundo, naririnig ko ito sa pamamagitan ng magandang musika,&quot; Montecido said.</p><p>Montecido, who is from Bacolod City, garnered a final average score for the week of 78.85%.</p><figure class="op-interactive"><div style="padding-top:66.375%"><div id="IVS_ABS_Body_Video_1_Container"> <ivs-player id="IVS_ABS_Body_Video_1" data-ivs-spid="3001339" data-ivs-key="e8c22c015ca9eafa76f1e3edfa03c603" data-ivs-vid="1456740" data-ivs-floating="1"></ivs-player> <script src="https://player.ivideosmart.com/ivsplayer/v4/dist/js/iframe-parent.js"></script> <script src="https://player.ivideosmart.com/ivsplayer/v4/dist/js/loader.js"></script> </div></div></figure><p>The second to be called by the judges was YouTube star Sam Mangubat from Batangas City, which might not have been a surprise for audience members after judge Yeng Constantino gushed, “Ikaw ang type ng performer na ‘idolin’. May ganoon kang dating, at I’m so proud of you, at para kaming naka-discover ng potential star.”</p><p>Constantino said she was very happy with Mangubat’s performance of “Jesus Take the Wheel,” which the young singer chose because of his faith and trust in God.</p><p>“Sobra akong kinilabutan, nangilo ang mga joints ko, para akong nilalamig. Montecido and Mangubat received a gold medal each, and each received P150,000 in prize money.</p>
