It was announced on Thursday that the planned early-year festival to be held next month has been postponed.<em> Michael Bagtas, ABS-CBN News</em></figcaption></figure></div><p>MANILA -- Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) organizers have confirmed plans to move the first-ever April festival to a later date over coronavirus (COVID-19) concerns.</p><p>&quot;In light of the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic and health emergency, the Summer Metro Manila Film Festival is hereby postponed,&quot; an announcement posted on Facebook read on Thursday.</p><div><script src="https://connect.facebook.net/en_US/sdk.js#xfbml=1&amp;version=v2.5" async="" type="text/javascript"></script></div><div class="fb-post" data-href="https://www.facebook.com/mmffofficial/photos/a.420845981353538/2542301252541323/?type=3&amp;theater" data-width="auto"> </div><p>It follows the declaration of President Rodrigo Duterte to place Metro Manila under a &quot;community quarantine&quot; beginning on Sunday, as part of the government&#x27;s plan to curb the COVID-19 spread.</p><p>The measure includes a ban on mass gatherings.</p><p>As of Thursday, the Philippines has 52 confirmed cases, mostly in Metro Manila.</p><p>The Summer MMFF is the latest in a number of postponed events that also include concerts due to COVID-19.</p><p>It was set to feature eight competing movies, starring the likes of Dingdong Dantes, Coco Martin, and Angelica Panganiban, to name a few. It was set to run from April 11 to April 21.</p>
