Box office director Cathy Garcia Molina found herself in hot water after she told a fan her thoughts about working with reel and real-life couple James Reid and Nadine Lustre.

On Twitter, a fan said she hopes to see Reid and Lustre star in a movie helmed by Molina before she retires.

"Sana po direk sa huling movie mo, sana Jadine ang kunin nyo, magaling po at napaka-professional. Natapos mo na ang KN (Kathniel), LQ (Lizquen), sana JD (Jadine) naman," the fan said.

To which Molina answered: "Iha, talaga ba? Iba kasi ang naririnig ko galing mismo kay direk Dan (Villegas) at direk Tonet (Jadaone). Sorry."

The fan then asked what Molina specifically heard from her colleagues about the celebrity couple, but the director just said that Jadaone has pretty much been vocal about it in social media.

Molina also agreed with the fan that she should not be quick to judge anyone until she has worked with them.

The director's Twitter exchange with the netizen drew unwanted attention, especially from Reid and Lustre's supporters.

It was then when Molina apologized to Villegas and Jadaone, saying she meant to do no harm to anyone and has no ill intentions.

Villegas, for his part, called on everyone to stop bringing up the issue since it's just a waste of energy.

"Never Not Love You" will be Reid and Lustre's first film since 2016's "This Time."

It will be their third time working with Jadaone following the teleseryes "On the Wings of Love" and "Till I Met You." Villegas is one of its producers.

The movie is scheduled for a March 31 release.
