MANILA -- Three ABS-CBN documentaries bagged medals in the prestigious 2020 New York Festivals TV &amp; Film Awards.ABS-CBN DocuCentral bagged a silver world medal for the Heroes category for the &quot;Local Legends&quot; episode on 74-year old Ric Obenza, and his lifelong advocacy for the environment and burning passion for the arts.Obenza shares his struggles, inspiration, and efforts in sustaining his craft as an environmentalist and artist by educating the people of Davao province, and inviting them to experience the joy of planting and tending to native trees while also appreciating nature through art. “Local Legends” is a documentary series that promotes a deeper sense of pride in Philippine heritage by showcasing local craftsmanship and artistry in music, food, textiles, and other industries.<div class="embed-wrap"><figure data-feedback="fb:likes,fb:comments"><img src="http://sa.kapamilya.com/absnews/abscbnnews/media/2020/entertainment/04/22/alab-still-3.jpg"/></figure></div>DocuCentral also won the bronze world medal for the same category with “Alab&quot; (Ablaze), a documentary that follows volunteer firefighters as they respond to emergencies during the Philippines&#x27; fire prevention month. It offers a peek inside the fire station brotherhood and the raw, emotional struggles of their everyday battles to save lives.<div class="embed-wrap"><figure data-feedback="fb:likes,fb:comments"><img src="http://sa.kapamilya.com/absnews/abscbnnews/media/2020/entertainment/04/22/tao-po.jpg"/></figure></div>ABS-CBN’s documentary program #NOFILTER, meanwhile, won the bronze world medal in the Human Concerns category for “Tao Po (Is Anybody Home?).” Written and produced by journalist Jeff Canoy, the documentary follows the story of a mother and her daughter with different needs. This is the first international award for the program which was launched in 2019.Aside from the medalists, five ABS-CBN documentaries were named as finalists for this year’s competition: “HIV Rising” (a documentary on HIV and AIDS in the Philippines hosted by journalist Korina Sanchez), “Local Legends: Glass Sculptor” (a feature on glass artist Ramon Orlina), “Invisible” (a documentary on mental health), “Ang Babae ng Balangiga” (a documentary on the return of the Balangiga Bells to the Philippines produced by Canoy), and ABS-CBN’s current affairs program &quot;Red Alert.&quot;The award-winning works were previously scheduled to be honored on April 21 at the NAB Show in Las Vegas but organizers postponed the event due to the COVID-19 global pandemic.The New York Festivals Best TV &amp; Film competition honors content in all lengths and forms from over 50 countries. This year&#x27;s jury is comprised of several prominent broadcast and film executive from across the world.The latest wins for ABS-CBN continues a winning streak for the network.Last year, ABS-CBN News and Creative Communications team bagged the gold for the television plug &quot;Elsa and Sarah&quot; and ABS-CBN&#x27;s DocuCentral&#x27;s “Local Legends: Karne Norte&quot; bagged the bronze award for the Biography/Profiles category.In 2018, ABS-CBN DocuCentral’s “Di Ka Pasisiil&quot; (Never Shall Be Conquered), written and produced by Canoy and Chiara Zambrano, won the gold world medal for the Human Concerns category.
