Caparas, the creator of Panday. The caption said Caparas gave Martin the green light to make a movie based on the fictional blacksmith. </p><p>The planned movie will be submitted for consideration to this year&#x27;s Metro Manila Film Festival. </p><p>Should the plans push through, this will not be the first time that Martin will tackle a role first popularized by industry icon Fernando Poe Jr. Martin is currently starring in &quot;Ang Probinsyano,&quot; the police action drama based on the 1997 film by the late action star of the same name. </p><p>There have long been rumors about a possible &quot;Panday&quot; remake. Back in 2015, Martin voiced out his intent in portraying the role, saying: &quot;Isa po iyon sa mga dream roles ng mga artista.&quot; </p><p>&quot;Para sa akin, kapag sinabi mong Panday, iyon ang tatak ng superhero ng Pilipino. Kung mayroon po silang Superman, tayo po ay may Panday,&quot; he added. </p><p>Martin will join a handful of other actors who followed in Poe&#x27;s footsteps and wielded Flavio&#x27;s sword, namely Richard Gutierrez, Bong Revilla Jr., and Jericho Rosales. </p><p>The &quot;Panday&quot; movie will also mark Martin&#x27;s directorial debut. </p><p>In a previous interview, Martin said he wants to venture into filmmaking having been inspired by Filipino greats such as Mike de Leon and Lino Brocka, stalwarts of the country&#x27;s golden age of cinema back in the 1970s. </p>
