MANILA – K-pop artist Kriesha Tiu will be launched as a solo artist this month following the success of her group KWINS in SBS' “K-Pop Star 6,” a reality talent competition in South Korea.

KWINS, composed of Tiu, Kim Hye-rin and Kim So-hee, finished runner-up to the group Boyfriend.

Tiu, 18, is a native of Ginatilan, Cebu. Her family moved to the United States when she was younger.

She had been doing front acts in concerts before she was discovered by a talent agency that sent her to a camp in Korea, where she learned their language and developed her talents in singing and dancing before joining the reality talent competition.

Tiu admitted that pursuing her love for K-pop and singing was not easy. She had to live away from home and her family for two years. She also had to go through power training to become a total performer.

But she has this message for aspiring artists who also want to make a name for themselves.

"Being a singer is not an easy dream to fulfill pero the most important thing is to be your own cheerleader because no one else can tell you what to do and no one else can stop you as long as you’re your own cheerleader. I think that’s the most important thing to keep in mind," she said.

After the final competition in “K-Pop Star 6,” Tiu was given a short break to spend time with her family. She visited some of her relatives in Cebu and also did a fan meeting over the weekend.
