One Music PH is shutting down, as one of the unfortunate results of ABS-CBN not being granted a franchise renewal. Facebook

MANILA — One Music PH, one of ABS-CBN's online music platforms, is shutting down, leaving its staff and writers out of a job in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic.

It was announced Monday that One Music PH, which began five years ago mainly to serve as a publication to promote local music, will stop producing content by the end of this month.

It is understood that most of its staff will be among the many who will be laid off by ABS-CBN, again as an unfortunate result of the decision of lawmakers not to renew the network's franchise.

The news comes a week after it was revealed that MOR 101.9, one of the most popular radio stations in the country, will also be closing shop, costing its hosts and other workers their jobs.

Some of the musicians who have worked with One Music PH, including Maris Racal and a member of the band Mayonnaise, thanked those involved with the publication for helping them reach new audiences.

"Apart from these artists, One Music PH will also be forever grateful to the fans who have followed us from the beginning," the staff of the music website wrote, in an article announcing their closure.

"It's been a great run for us, if we may say. We know in our hearts that we will see each other again," they added.

One Music PH has more than 350,000 subscribers on YouTube, and nearly half a million followers on Facebook and Twitter.
