Lola approves of Jake Zyrus' new girlfriend

She was one of his fiercest critics back when he first announced his decision to come out as a transgender man.

But turning over a new leaf, Tess Relucio, Jake Zyrus' grandmother, is now backing her apo's new relationship.

She first voiced her support for Zyrus in an interview last month, and on Friday erased all doubts over whether she still harbors ill feelings toward her grandson's decision to abandon his former identity.

"Basta ang imporante is apo ko siya. Wala naman nagbago sa damdamin ko. Mas minahal ko pa nga lalo ngayon dahil hinarap niya ang totoo sa buhay niya," Relucio told ABS-CBN News' MJ Felipe.

She also revealed that she has already given Zyrus' new relationship with Shyre Aquino, a nutritionist and fitness instructor, her approval.

Relucio was part of the crowd that caught Zyrus' first major concert since coming out.

In an interview afterward, also with Felipe, Zyrus said that his lola's support and blessing for his girlfriend mean a lot to him.

"Para sa akin, kahit anong sabihin pa ng mga tao, kapag tanggap ng family mo, hindi mo na papansinin iyong iba. Kumpleto na."
