Collaborations take centerstage in Pinoy Playlist Music Festival 2019

Or the sultry Nicole Asensio heat up with the 201 Big Band and special guest Gian Magdangal? Or indie pop singer-songwriter Clara Benin join forces with her father Joey Benin, best known for his stint with Side A?</p><p>These are just a few of the unlikely pairings that you will see in this year’s edition of the Pinoy Playlist Music Festival (PPMF) that will take place on October 11, 12, 13 and 18, 19 and 20. </p><p>Over 100 artists will take centerstage during these six nights in the three performance spaces at the BGC Arts Center namely the Globe Auditorium, the Zobel de Ayala Recital Hall and the Sun Life Amphitheater. </p><p>While attendees are expected to watch their favorite Filipino artists, they are also encouraged to discover other artists and genres from pop, orchestra, acapella, jazz, praise, choral, ethno pop, rock, R&amp;B, musical theatre, novelty, rap and many more as they hop from venue to venue. </p><p>A brainchild of Moy Ortiz of The Company, the PPMF was jointly conceived as a festival of Filipino-made music with National Artist for Music and Ramon Magsaysay awardee Ryan Cayabyab and talent manager Noel Ferrer. </p><p>Ortiz, Cayabyab and Ferrer also serve as the curators of the festival which is managed over-all by the Bonifacio Art Foundation headed by its Managing Director, Maria Isabel Garcia. </p><p>What’s new with the festival this year is the collaborations. Garcia said “at least 30 percent of the performances are collaborations or shared to nuance the texture of a musical slot according to the artists who will collaborate or share the slot.”</p><p>“We loved working up ideas and inviting artists for PPMF because we believe in the power of music to awaken our senses. There is so much innovation going on in Filipino music-making and you just have to hear them. PPMF is animated by Filipino artists who give us those vital gifts to change the quality of our days and nights,” Garcia further noted. </p><p>With regards to expectations, the organizers believe that this year’s PPMF as presented by the BGC Arts Center with Sun Life Foundation will have a very good turnout. </p><p>“We believe in the Filipino audience—they will show up because Filipino-made music has always been there for us. We know that Filipino-made music awakens and inspires their souls because while music is universal, there is always a special place for Filipino-made music in the playlist of Filipino lives,” Garcia pointed out. </p><p>“There is something about this alchemy - the melody, the harmony, the lyrics, the rhythm that resonates within our Pinoy souls, wherever we are, whatever our walk in life is and however we are tied to our nation. Dahil ito ay atin, sariling atin.
