'Strange Frequencies: Taiwan Killer Hospital' promises to be first film of its kind in PH

MANILA -- Metro Manila Film Fest entry “Strange Frequencies: Taiwan Killer Hospital,” an unscripted horror flick led by Enrique Gil, promises to be the first film of its kind in the country.Gil will be playing himself in the film, which is dubbed as the Philippines first meta found footage horror movie. It is produced by Gil along with internationally acclaimed director Erik Matti with veteran filmmaker Dondon Monteverde.“A lot of the movie is candid. The script is just a guide. Whatever happens, the way you say it, kayo na bahala, tayo na bahala. Most of the time, ito scene, may nangyari na ganito and we will just chime in with each other,” the actor explained in an interview in Quezon City, Wednesday.The movie, which was inspired by the South Korean hit &quot;Gonjiam: Haunted Asylum,&quot; follows a group of amateur ghost hunters and will feature Alexa Miro, Jane de Leon, Rob Gomez, beauty queen MJ Lastimosa, tarot reader Raf Pineda, and content creator Ryan “Zarckaroo” Azurin.Following the format of the Korean original, the group of Filipino amateur ghost hunters will explore the notorious Xinglin Hospital, an abandoned building located in Taiwan’s West Central District.The asylum is considered by locals as one of the most haunted places in the region due to its recurring paranormal activities.“Ako pinaka-takot sa kanilang lahat. Pag sinearch niyo, isa siya sa pinakanakakatakot. Noong una &#x27;di ako naniniwala, nangungulit pa ako but eventually, bandang dulo, tahimik na lang ako,” Gomez recalled.“Narealize namin kailangan naming mag pagpag every after shoot kasi iba talaga,” he added.Miro explained that the audience can look forward to this reimagined style of filming technique.“Lahat kami kinuha ni [Enrique], horror fans. Growing up I have always been passionate. Naisip namin what if tayo din nag-shoot. We all had GoPros, one facing us [and] one facing what&#x27;s in front of us. May handheld camera and flashlight. Walang camera crew. Kami lang pumasok, at one time we had 28 cameras in total,” she teased.The horror film will be shown in cinemas beginning December 25.
