Drag is not a mainstream thing back in the Philippines. We don&#x27;t really have that much queer representation,&quot; the drag queen said.</p><p>While it is still not illegal to be gay in the Philippines, Marina noted that there is no anti-discrimination law in the country.</p><p>&quot;It&#x27;s not illegal but even up until this day, we have no gay rights or, like, any bill or like laws, not even anti-discrimination laws. We don&#x27;t have anything to protect us,&quot; she said.</p><p>&quot;But when &#x27;Drag Race&#x27; started in the Philippines, we&#x27;re seeing a lot of conversations. We haven&#x27;t seen something like that in the past 10 years,&quot; she said.</p><p>&quot;We are able to spark conversation about queer struggles and how to not only tolerate but also understand and respect the LGBTQ+ community. I&#x27;m happy to see that step but we have a long way to go, girl.&quot;</p><p>Various versions of a bill penalizing discrimination, exclusion and harassment based on someone&#x27;s SOGIE have languished in Congress for more than two decades.</p><p>With her Philippine summer-inspired ad and a recreation of Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray&#x27;s lava gown also made by designer Mak Tumang, Marina is safe for another week.</p><p>Scarlet Envy won the episode and chose one of UK&#x27;s bets, Jonbers Blonde, to go home in 9th place.</p><p>Marina is the first drag queen from the Philippine franchise to compete in an international edition of the hit reality competition.
