MANILA -- The National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) and The Metropolitan Theater on Sunday screened Lino Brocka's 1976 film "Insiang" as part of its celebration of Women's Month.

The film, which starred Hilda Koronel and was shot in Tondo, was the very first Philippine movie to be part of the Cannes Film Festival.

The free screening was done in collaboration with the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP), Cine Filipina, Philippine Film Archive (PFA), and the Philippine Commission on Women (PCW).

Among the audience who watched "Insiang" is acclaimed, award-winning art director Fiel Zabat who worked on the film's production design.

"Women were too giving then. Not anymore. After 48 years, women are braver. They are getting their own place," said Zabat.

In 2015, "Insiang" was screened in Cannes in the "Cannes Classic" section.
