Filipino led production ‘VIỆT and NAM’ headed to Cannes festival

<div><span dir="ltr" id="isPasted"></span></div><p>Trương Minh Quý&#x27;s film &quot;VIỆT and NAM,&quot; is set to make waves at the prestigious Festival de Cannes as an official selection in the film fest&#x27;s Un Certain Regard section.</p><p>This Vietnamese cinematic gem is an 8-country production led by the Philippines via Bradley Liew of Epicmedia and Bianca Balbuena Liew, with Patti Lapus supervising and Nguyen Thi Xuan Trang line-producing.</p><p> According to Balbuena, the milestone was a dream she “never thought would come true so soon.”</p><p> “Always the missing piece of the Holy Trinity of festivals. Met Director Quy in 2013 in Busan, watched his film at 11 a.m. with a hangover. Started working with him January of 2020 with a mere short synopsis. Always loved Quy&#x27;s film language and him as a person. When we got this Cannes news in February, we were jumping and crying, it&#x27;s crazy. Bradley was leading this project ever since I left Epicmedia and I just want to congratulate him for seeing this through til the very end, from closing the most complicated financing contracts of 8 countries and dozens of funds, to everything that you did and still do,” Balbuena-Liew wrote on her Facebook account.</p><p>She went on: “Big hug to the most amazing set of co-producers-Weijie Lai (SG), Marie Dubas (France), Lorna Tee &amp; Joost De Vries (Netherlands), Stefano Centini (Italy), Alex Lo (US), Christian Jilka (Germany), Trang (Vietnam). They are always there to help make the crucial decisions and to bring the film to its best state.”</p><p>Liew shared on his social media page that the film was shot in 16mm film “from the darkness of the mines to the sunshine of the towns and forests of Vietnam.”</p><p>“This film explores the love, dreams, and trauma of multiple generations of a country&#x27;s children, but always through the lens of hope.
