MANILA — The organizers of the Quezon City Pride March ensured the safety of attendees amid the recent incident during BINI's Independence Day performance.

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Pride PH convenor Rod Singh said the Pride March serves as a safe space for the LGBT community and they will protect it.

"Nakasisiguro tayo na for the past years na nag-organize tayo ng Pride, ang Pride ay nagsilbing tahanan para sa maraming LGBTQIA+ members ng community at nakasisiguro po tayo kapag ang tahanan natin ay pinoprotektahan," Singh said.

"Nakasisiguro tayo na together, not just with the Quezon City security provided by the Quezon City government, nakasisiguro tayo that the attendees themselves will protect the Pride Festival," she added.

Singh added that they have doubled this year's security detail to ensure the safety of the attendees.

"Normally naman bukod sa mga barikada natin, talagang mahigpit 'yung security and sobrang salamat sa Quezon City (gov't) for extending and hindi lang security 'yung meron po tayo, dinoble po talaga," Singh said.

"If ang worries po natin ay 'yung security measures ay mai-implement, don't worry napaghandaan po natin 'yan at doble-doble ang seguridad natin ngayon," she added.

Police Brig. Gen. Rederico Maranan also urged attendees to cooperate with authorities.

"The challenge is crowd control, that's why we'll be using some physical barriers and assistance ng ating mga force multipliers ang pinaka-importante talaga is the behavior of the crowd who are attending this event," he said.

BINI's performance during the 126th Independence Day festivities at the Quirino Grandstand last week had to be cut short, after fans climbed on scaffoldings and refused to back off the stage.

The Nation's Girl Group managed to perform two songs -- "Lagi" and "Karera" -- before asking the crowd to back off the stage as they were gearing up to sing "Huwag Muna Tayong Umuwi." Their dance coach, Mickey Perz, also urged the crowd to behave.

On X (formerly Twitter), BINI's official account thanked the fans for their support, while explaining that safety should come first.

"Thank you sa lahat ng sumuporta ngayong gabi! Ngunit safety first po tayo (we should exercise safety first) and we hope for your understanding. More chances to see each other real soon! We hope everyone gets home safely tonight. Maraming salamat! Happy Independence Day." -- With a report by Katrina Domingo, ABS-CBN News
