Last May 24, former Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) chairperson Liza Diño filed 78 counts of cyberlibel in four separate complaints against entertainment website PEP, former FDCP chairman Tirso Cruz III and current FDCP chairman Joey Reyes before the Quezon City Regional Trial Court.

When ABS-CBN News caught up with Diño during the media huddle for their upcoming LGBT play "Choosing," the actress-producer couldn’t fight back her tears when asked about the complaint she filed against her colleagues.

Diño said she kept her silence from the time the articles were published. In fact, her partner, singer Ice Seguerra, admired how patient she had been.

“It’s not even the truth. It’s a narrative that is available out there, that’s the only narrative eh. By filing this complaint, we just want to put it out there, that ‘hey, this is not the only story here ha’. Ito 'yung side namin, ito 'yung side ni Liza,” said Seguerra.

Diño added: “Hindi biro 'yun eh, what they have said, I was talking to my lawyers. I couldn’t believe 78 counts of cyberlibel imputation. Meaning, they have maligned my character 78 counts in different articles. I think that’s more than enough reason to say something.”

We asked her if it felt heavy for her to pursue this complaint given that some of the respondents were colleagues she has worked with in the past.

“And all the more reason why I have that question. Why? What did I do? Sobrang mahal ko itong industry na ito. Anong ginawa ko to deserve this? To deserve that kind of maligning of my reputation, my person, everything that I have given,” she said.

“Hindi ko naman sinasabi na i-recognize niyo, not even that eh. Respeto na lang. I think I like to believe that I have given my fair share of sacrifice and hard work and love that I’ve shown, the passion that I have for this industry during the time I was in FDCP.

“I deserve respect,” she added.

PEP initially released a statement that they have yet to receive copy of the complaint filed by Dino. Other respondents have not issued any statements yet, in response to the complaint.
