Photo by Anna Cerezo, </div>MANILA -- Director Mikhail Red&#x27;s upcoming horror film “Lilim” is hoping for a spot in the 2024 Metro Manila Film Festival.“We are targeting MMFF. Sana mabigyan ng pagkakataon,” Heaven Peralejo, who will lead the flick as Issa, said in an interview during the movie’s shoot at a studio in Makati City, Tuesday evening.“Let’s hope! If ipasa nila, why not! Ang track record ni Direk ay napakaganda,” Mon Confiado, who portrays a cop, added.According to Red, who co-wrote the film with his brother Nikolas Red, “Lilim” is a “supernatural and gothic horror movie set in the &#x27;80s.”The plot, visuals, and cinematic language, the director explained, is very different from his previous titles such as “Eerie” and 2022 MMFF big winner “Deleter.” “It is about a brother and sister who escaped a secluded orphanage where they discovered dark cult practices and an ancient evil lurking. May mystery, may suspense, and of course horror,” Mikhail said.“It is something I have always wanted to do din. Cult sa film and perspective din siya ng children. Every project I want to do, I want to try something new,” he added.The “ambitious project” took 20 days to shoot.“We are really taking our time. Interesting visually but tough rin. Ang dami set pieces, ang dami action bits, may big finale rin. So, challenging siya, in a technical sense. We really need to craft it well,” Mikhail detailed.“Lilim” also marks Mikhail’s first collaboration with his father and Palme d&#x27;Or for Best Short Film recipient Raymond Red.Raymond was recognized with the prestigious award at the 2001 Cannes Film for his film “Anino.”“Finally naka-work ko na dad ko. He is the reason I was exposed early. I started early with Cinemalaya. Finally, na-convince ko siya to collaborate. Great opportunity especially for a project this scale,&quot; Mikhail said.Apart from being a co-writer, Mikhail said his brother Nikolas is also an editor for the flick.“Since it is our first very interesting collaboration and helpful we all know each other’s taste. They know my taste and visual pegs,” he said.Peralejo considers the flick as her “dream project.”“I want to be versatile. Dream ko magka-horror and may action, I did all the preparations I can do to give justice sa scenes,” she said in an interview with ABS-CBN News.“I will be playing Issa meron siya dark past na tinatakbuhan. Kasama niya brother, si Tomas, mapupunta sila doon sa isang orphanage. Doon ma-unfold ang something creepy and weird. And that is not connected sa past niya na kailangan niya na rin takbuhan,” she added.Peralejo admitted that her foray into the horror genre was challenging.“Most of the time, nakakaloka, ako lang character na andoon. It is a first. Sanay ako may co-partner. Wala ako mapag-kuhaan ng energy. Puro camera lang. So I just  have to trust the process,” she explained.According to the actress, given that the material she is working with is quite heavy, she needed to make an effort to desensitize from her character.“We are shooting for 20 days, and in between those days I make sure meron ako time magpagpag para mawala ako sa character. Minsan napapanaginipan ko na set. Parang nightmare, papunta na doon. Kahit nasa bahay ako. I know I am safe but I am on my feet,” she recalled.“I make sure may time magpagpag para mawala sa character ni Issa. She has so many layers, mabigat siya as a character,” she added.
