Tiziana Fabi, AFP/File</span></span></span></div><div style="text-align:left"><br/></div><p>MANILA — President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. has declared April 22, 2025, Tuesday, a &quot;Day of National Mourning&quot; over the passing of actress and national artist Nora Aunor.</p><p>Aunor, who passed away on April 16, was to be given state funeral rites with full military honors at the Libingan ng mga Bayani in Taguig City on Tuesday noon. </p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2025/4/17/marcos-says-nora-aunor-a-gift-to-the-filipino-nation-1333">Marcos says Nora Aunor ‘a gift to the Filipino nation’</a></div><p>Marcos signed Proclamation 870 on Monday, which noted that Aunor’s passing “is a great loss to the Filipino people and to the nation&#x27;s cultural and artistic community.” </p><p>It also cited her outstanding contribution to Philippine cinema, television, and music, which has “left a lasting legacy on the nation&#x27;s collective memory and identity.” </p><p>“The nation mourns and joins the family and friends of National Artist Nora Cabaltera Villamayor (Nora Aunor) in this moment of grief and remembrance,” the proclamation said. </p><div><span class="fr-video fr-deletable fr-fvc fr-dvb fr-draggable" contenteditable="false" draggable="true"><iframe width="640" height="360" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/erN5bCtphlI?&amp;wmode=opaque&amp;rel=0" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen="" class="fr-draggable"></iframe></span></div><p>Aunor was conferred the Order for National Artist in 2022 for her significant contributions in the Philippine media and theater.
