MANILA – The House of Representatives has adopted a resolution honoring the life, legacy and immense contributions of movie and television icon Gloria Romero.During plenary session on Tuesday, the lower chamber adopted House Resolution No. 2198, which also expressed profound sympathies and sincerest condolences over Romero&#x27;s passing.&quot;As it is hereby resolved, that the House of Representatives of the Philippines honor and commemorates the life, legacy, and immense contributions of Philippine Film and Television Icon Gloria Romero, and expresses its deepest sympathies and sincerest condolences to her family, friends, and loved ones during this time of mourning,&quot; the resolution read.<div><a class="fr-green fr-strong" href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/entertainment/showbiz/celebrities/2025/1/29/more-celebrities-pay-tribute-on-last-night-of-gloria-romero-s-wake-1233">READ: More celebrities pay tribute on last night of Gloria Romero&#x27;s wake</a></div>It also resolved to furnish a copy of the resolution to Romero&#x27;s family &quot;as a testament to respect, admiration, and gratitude of the nation for her remarkable life and legacy.&quot;The resolution was filed by Cavity 2nd District Rep. Lani Mercado-Revilla, AGIMAT Party-list Rep. Bryan Revilla and Cavite 1st District Rep. Ramon Jolo Revilla III on January 27.Romero&#x27;s daughter Maritess Gutierrez confirmed to ABS-CBN News that the veteran actress passed away peacefully on January 25.Romero was widely regarded as the &quot;First Lady of Philippine Cinema&quot; after appearing in over 250 movies and TV productions.Lawmakers cited Romero&#x27;s &quot;exceptional talent and dedication that allowed her to breathe life into every character she portrayed.&quot;The icon earned numerous accolades including Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress from Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Sciences (FAMAS), the Film Academy of the Philippines and Gawan Urian Awards.Romero&#x27;s best known works include movies Dalagang Ilocana (1954), Nagbabagang Luha (1988) and Tanging Yaman (2000). She is also fondly remembered for her memorable role in the ABS-CBN sitcom Palibhasa Lalake (1987-1998).&quot;Beyond her professional achievements, Gloria Romero was deeply admired for her warmth, humility, and kindness, leaving an indelible impression on her colleagues and serving as an inspiration to generations of Filipino artists,&quot; the resolution stated.In February 2024, friends, fellow actors paid tribute to the actress to celebrate her 90th birthday.
