Sassa Gurl on joining her first gay pageant at 17: ‘Natatakot ako kasi makikita ako ng tatay ko!’

<p>When talented content creator Sassa Gurl first started posting her videos online, netizens found her skits about everyday student life hilarious and entertaining. In her clips, she also sports a distinct makeup look, which she admitted, was just something she enjoyed playing with, even with no formal training. Now one of the celebrity ambassadors of a local cosmetics line, Sassa talked about how she first learned to put on makeup. </p><p>“Hindi naman ako nag-train sa makeup pero ang naging training ko din yung mga pageant pageant, yung nanay-nanayan ko. Tinitingnan ko kung paano sila mag-contour, paano sila mag eyeshadow. Nakakaloka pa nga kasi ang dudugyot ng mga nayshie ko. Kasi ang ginagawa nila dati, linalawayan nila yung eyeshadow tapos sasabihin, ‘O, pikit ka lang, ganyan!’ Hindi mo alam bakit bigla na lang basa, eh walang tubig dito (laughs). So ayun. Tapos nung nag-college na ako, talagang yun na yung ginagawa ko talaga on stage. Talagang ako gumagawa ng mga costumes ko at saka ako mag-me-makeup sa sarili ko. Eh itong mga bakla na ito, naglalaban-laban kami sa pagandahan kung sinong pinakamaganda sa barangay namin. And ang ginawa, dinaan na lang sa pageant. So sabi mag-o-organize ng isang malaking pageant sa barangay namin tapos lahat kami kasali.</p><p>“Eh siyempre, natatakot ako kasi makikita ako ng tatay ko na naka-swimsuit di ba? Eh ayaw mo yun kasi maloloka sa’yo yung tatay. Until sabi nila na i-go ko na yan kasi tataas din yung confidence mo at saka talagang lahat ng mga bakla dito talagang nagsisimula sa mga ganyang atake. So pinush ko na din. So nakakapag-take time na rin Nakalimutan ko na nga actually na napakahalaga pala nun, to take rest for your mental health and physical. Ako naman ngayon, sabi ko nga nung nagkasakit ako, hindi mo talaga dapat ini-echapuwera yung pahinga kasi importante din talaga siya and mahalaga siya sa mga artist, sa aming mga artista na kailangan mo talaga i-push yung sarili mo na makapagpahinga. Importante siya,” she said. </p>
