Quezon descendant Pinky Amador affected by 'Quezon' film: ‘My family have suffered enough’

<p>Seasoned actress Pinky Amador critiqued the latest film of Jerrold Tarog, <em>Quezon</em>, as one of the descendants of the late Manuel L. Quezon. She shared how personal this was for her as well and showed her support towards her fellow descendant.</p><p>“My Lola, our matriarch, died in 2021 at 100 years old. If she were still with us, would the producers have the gall to show this to her? It would certainly have sent her to her death,” she wrote.</p><p>While she understood the creative decision behind the film, the actress maintained that the people behind the film have a responsibility when it comes to what they put out there. </p><p>“Artistic freedom does not excuse you from artistic responsibility. We never asked to be consulted nor include MLQ as one of your so called Bayanis. When you add layers of ‘fiction’ and ‘satire’ then purposefully BLUR those lines with your creative treatment, then you are weaponizing history according to your narrative for sales,” she maintained. </p><p>Pinky asserted that not everyone is educated enough to know what satire is from what is historically accurate. </p><p>“We are in an educational crisis. 24M Filipinos struggle with functional literacy and 91% of 10-year-olds unable to read simple texts. So when Dep-Ed endorsed films become the only education for millions, showing only one side isn’t just poor storytelling—it’s miseducation,” she stated. </p><p>Despite releasing her opinion about the film, she assured everyone that she isn’t stopping them from watching it to form their own opinions. She admitted, however, that she may have burned some bridges expressing and defending her own kin.</p><p>“Maliit na artista lang. Malamang never ko nang makakatrabaho ang mga creatives dito at kamumuhian pa ng aking mga kapwa manggagawa sa sining. Pero, I am doing this [for] my Lola and great grand uncle who are no longer here to defend themselves,” she ended. </p>
