Ysabel Ortega has no regrets choosing showbiz over law school: ‘Ito yung pinili kong landas’

<p>As part of Regal Entertainment’s Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) film entry <em>Shake, Rattle, &amp; Roll: Evil Origins</em>, Ysabel Ortega shared just how excited she was to be doing her first horror film project this year with no less than the country’s most iconic horror film franchise. </p><p>“Actually, ever since pa lang nagsimula pa lang ako, nasa checklist ko na po talaga, nasa bucket list ko na ang mapasali sa isang <em>Shake, Rattle, &amp; Roll</em> movie. Sobrang happy ako. Actually hindi ko ma-explain yung feeling ko nung first time ko matanggap yung message na magiging part ako ng <em>Shake, Rattle, &amp; Roll</em>. Sabi ko nga kay mama, ‘Mama, grabe, kahit dumaan lang ako sa film, okay na.’ Kasi very iconic talaga yung <em>Shake, Rattle, &amp; Roll </em>at walang story ng <em>Shake, Rattle, &amp; Roll </em>ang hindi sumikat nung time na yun. Lalo na siguro ngayon na ipapakita yung mga Gen Z at iba’t ibang generations. Kaya sobrang grateful and blessed. She had initially wanted to fulfill lifelong dream of becoming a lawyer. The 26-year-old actress shared with the press the unexpected challenges in her life after she became a law student when she initially thought her then project was already nearing its finale. </p><p>“Nag-enroll kasi ako ng law school nung matatapos na (yung show). Sabi ko wala na akong taping, hindi ako ma-bi-busy so nag-enroll na ako. Hindi rin pala tapos naging busy pa pala kasi siyempre may mga promos pa kami tapos na-extend pa po kami nun nag-taping pa kami. So hindi ko na kinaya. Kasi yung law school mag-absent ka lang ng isang araw, nag dami niyo ng ma-mi-miss, mahirap na humabol. Kaso hindi lang nakaya (laughs). Oo, makikichika ako pero nagbabasa po ako nun, hindi talaga kinaya eh. As of now, parang hindi. I think yung law school ko kasi ginawa ko as a form of plan B and for the longest time kasi, habang nag-aartista ako, nag-aaral din ako. So nung nag-graduate ako ng college, parang hinanap ko yung ganung feeling na hindi na ako natutulog kasi kung wala akong taping, pumapasok ako. Parang feeling ko, hindi ako productive sa buhay ko pag nakakatulog ako (laughs). So I feel like I was missing that adrenaline tapos I think ngayon happy ako na at least eto talaga, wala na akong plaplanuhin,” she admitted. </p><p>Aside from being able to hone her career as an artist, Ysabel said giving up law school also meant her having more time for her family and other pursuits. “Binuhos ko yung lahat ko sa career ko and hindi ko siya pinagsisisihan. May time ako for my friends, may time ako for my family. Nagkaroon ako ng buong buhay kasi hindi lang puro grind yung ginagawa ko ngayon. I feel more well rounded,” she said. </p>
