Liza Dino loses laptop, expensive watch inside checked luggage at NAIA

<div><span class="fr-video fr-deletable fr-fvc fr-dvb fr-draggable" contenteditable="false" draggable="true"><iframe width="640" height="360" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/ZWXtZbvdXYQ?&amp;wmode=opaque&amp;rel=0" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen="" class="fr-draggable"></iframe></span><br/>Liza Dino-Seguerra, former chairperson of the Film Development Council of the Philippines, said she lost an expensive watch and laptop inside her checked-in luggage following her arrival at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport last Wednesday.</div><p>Seguerra, partner of singer Aiza “Ice” Seguerra, said she had just arrived from San Francisco via a Philippine Airlines flight when she noticed that 2 items - an expensive Apple Watch Ultra 2 and a laptop - inside her checked-in luggage were missing.</p><p>“Pagdating ko, dumating naman ‘yung maleta. Siyempre, normally  kapag dumadating naman ‘yang maleta, hindi mo na siya chine-check ‘yang sa loob. Pagdating namin sa bahay, binili ko ito ng watch, ‘yung Apple Watch tsaka laptop. Pagbukas namin, wala na talaga,” Dino said in a TeleRadyo Serbisyo interview.</p><p>Ice, meanwhile, said they both noticed that Liza’s luggage seemed to have been slashed with a blade.</p><p>“Sobrang parang may knife, na naka cut siyang ganun. Sobrang precise ng pagkaka cut,” Ice said.</p><p>Dino said she had placed the laptop and watch inside her checked luggage because she was carrying 3 laptops inside her backpack and would exceed her carry-on limit. “May limit kasi sa eroplano kung gaano kabigat.”</p><p>The couple said they do not know where the luggage was opened and the missing items pilfered.</p><p>Dino said she doubts that Transportation Security Administration agents in the US confiscated the laptop and watch since they would usually put a notice of inspection inside the luggage that the items were prohibited or pose a security risk and were thus removed.</p><p>The TSA also uses special tools to open and re-secure travel locks, and would not use a knife to open luggage, she said.</p><p>PAL management and an assistant of Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon contacted the couple after Seguerra’s Facebook post about the theft went viral.</p><div><iframe src="https://www.facebook.com/plugins/post.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Ficeseguerra%2Fposts%2Fpfbid0cECdirWa1zNCJcWjFCkuZChgoAWwBKjjLUsLMX7xyvF5ac3JnQAKUf9wHeUt3JvJl&amp;show_text=true&amp;width=500" width="500" height="188" style="border:none;overflow:hidden" scrolling="no" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen=""></iframe></div><p>“I would like to think they are very active to really address itong mga issue na mga nangyayari sa NAIA dahil mukha ng Pilipinas ‘yan,” Dino said.</p><p>A two-day PAL investigation of the theft, however, came up empty after bag handling staff who were on duty during that time underwent a body search and CCTV footage of the baggage area was reviewed.</p><p>PAL management is set to compensate the couple for the stolen watch, priced at 1,000 US dollars, but will not be paying for the lost laptop.</p><p>Dino urged airport authorities to be more proactive in addressing reports of luggage pilferage.</p><p>“‘Yun ‘yung parang nakakatakot na feeling. I have been traveling even before, matagal na, for the last 30 years. First time ko ma-experience na kinuha sa loob ng maleta mo,” she said.</p>
