EXCLUSIVE: Lani Misalucha looks back on her 40-year long career in showbiz

Veteran singer Lani Misalucha recalled the past 40 years she’s been in the showbiz industry in the country. In an exclusive interview with PUSH ABS-CBN, the Bukas Na Lang Kita Mamahalin hitmaker shared some of the lessons that she has learned along the way.<div style="text-align:center"><img src="https://od2-image-api.abs-cbn.com/prod/editorImage/1747616715263EXCLUSIVE-Lani-Misalucha-looks-back-on-her-40-year-long-career-in-showbiz.jpg" class="fr-fic fr-dib"/></div>Lani began her luminous career in what seemed to be an unusual start. She recalled how she didn’t disclose that she was already married with two children. For her, it felt like a “complete opposite” from the usual route of the newcomers in the industry.“Nag-start ako sa industry ng hindi na ako bata. I was already a married person with two daughters,” she shared.“I didn’t actually reveal my status in life na married na pala ako and I wasn’t that young anymore. Most of the artists in the industry, they actually started in the industry at a very young age, so it&#x27;s completely opposite of me na talaga late na ako dumating,” she recalled.Despite her unusual beginnings, the veteran singer remained true to her core –– treating everyone the same way. She didn’t consider this as a “secret or a formula” as to why she continues to be in the industry for several decades already, though, simply because she believes that this is how one should really be.“I don’t know if there’s a certain secret or a formula but I just try to do the things that I know are right to do. I do get along with everyone, I try to treat people special, try to treat everyone equally, whether they are in the highest position in the company all the way down to the janitors. I treat them special and treat them as a person, as a human being,” she maintained.Lani continued to tell us how her career didn’t blossom immediately after she debuted as an artist. In fact, she remembered that there was a point in her career where fans loved her songs but couldn’t recognize the singer due to the technology that was available then.“It was a time when I released my first album. 1997 of January under Alpha Records was when I released my first single which is Somebody Warm Like Me. Somehow, nag-play siya sa radio pero hindi nila na-connect yung song sa person, artist. Kasi hindi ako masyadong nakakalabas sa TV to promote it,” she recalled.Back then, social media wasn’t a thing as the technology wasn’t as advanced then. The veteran singer recounted the limited television stations that were available for promotions back then.“Very limited lang , so yun lang yung platform mo para ma-recognize ka and then it wasn’t an easy climb kumbaga. It took a while na makita nila yung Lani Misalucha and the song ay iisa pala yun,” she expressed.When we asked what she wanted to be remembered for in the music industry, Lani paused to think hard about it then came up with something that resonated with her humble beginnings as a singer and performer.“That’s probably how I want to be remembered: Lani Misalucha who sang a story,” she ended.Lani is set to hold her 40th anniversary concert titled Still Lani this coming August 21 at the Theater at Solaire in Parañaque City. Her highly-anticipated concert is directed by Calvin Niera with musical direction by Toma Cayabyab and produced by Backstage Entertainment.
