Janice de Belen on falling in love again: ‘I keep on praying that it does not happen’

I’m not a logical or rational person. I’m not able to see left and right. I can’t think straight. I am there, I am really there, nobody’s fault but mine. Alam ko ‘yun, I’ve accepted that,” she explained.  </p><p> Janice shared that the marriage separation she went through led to many realizations about independence that she now enjoys.  </p><p> “Na-realize ko na ayoko na ng kasama sa kwarto. Ayoko na ng may ka-share sa bathroom. Ito ang pinaka-trival sa lahat: ayoko na ng may ka-share sa remote control,” she said.  </p><p> “I’m happy with being able to do things when I want to. Kung hindi ako makatulog, hindi ako matutulog or I get up at night, pupunta ako sa aking office, uupo lang ako doon and mag-iisip ako ng gagawin. At least I don’t have to tell anybody. If I want to go and buy let’s say 10 books, I don’t have to ask anybody’s permission.” </p><p> In a deeper sense, Janice shared a unique perspective that is contrary to a common belief that people learn from heartbreaks.  </p><p> “Sinasabi nila na ‘nako when you’re heartbroken, you learn when you come back.’ It’s not true. You learn for a while  pero [babalik ka pa rin] [because as for me] it’s my core,” she said.  </p><p> “You change as a person, but your core does not change. So feeling ko, I will be back in the same pattern. It will still happen to me, magiging ganon pa rin kasi ‘yun ako eh,” she said.  </p><p> The actress also shared another unique perspective about dealing with heartbreaks, drawing the line between then and now.  </p><p> “When you get older, your recovery from a heartbreak, it’s not the same [as] when you were younger,” she noted.  </p><p> “Why? Because you think of the time. You’re going to think of the time that you’ve lost. I don’t want to call it ‘wasted’ but the time that you’ve lost. The clock doesn’t move backwards, it moves forward. The number of the years, pataasan ‘yan, hindi naman ‘yan pababa,” she expounded.  </p><p> Janice also shared that despite being alone, she is happy with her life.  </p><p> “They always ask me, ‘hindi ka ba malulungkot? Kasi mag-isa ka, wala kang boyfriend, wala kang partner.’ [Ang sagot ko ay] hindi, kasi if you can’t be happy alone, you can’t be happy with another person. Dapat [kahit] mag-isa ka, kaya mo.” </p><p> Janice has been very consistent about being contented as a single mother. I have five children. “I was already married. I had failed relationships. I got separated. I had a relationship after that. I don’t want to get married again. I might have initially worried thinking that I might grow old alone.” </p><p> “Even if you have someone, when he dies, you will also be alone. I don’t want that to be an issue. Then, maybe when I started working and working, I stopped thinking about it. I enjoyed my independence. I don’t think I can still adjust to be with a partner now,” she added.  </p><p>While Janice is not looking to fall in love, she allows herself to indulge in having happy crushes, such as her Korean idol Song Joong Ki.
