<p>Before she became a celebrity ambassador of PAWS Philippines, the country’s oldest animal welfare organization, actress Carla Abellana first joined the NGO as a volunteer when she was just in grade school. Now at 38, the actress shared how her love for animals first began at home when she saw her own family members taking care of their pets. </p><div><br/></div><p>“I believe it’s because I grew up in a family of animal lovers talaga. My grandmother had around, at one point, 30 dogs at home and I grew up with my grandmother. So early on we were taught how to be responsible, how to take good care of pets, and how to have compassion. So from there, I just fell in love. I had all sorts of pets. I pet chickens, ducks, lizards, rats, guinea pigs, fish, spiders, snakes. So all sorts of pets and that’s how it started. (Getting scratched) is part of it. They will scratch you, you don’t have  personal space, they’re all over you. The house is not always clean, it doesn’t always smell good. You have to really clean up after them. They nibble, sometimes. They bark at you at times. So I adopted one and the rest were given to me. Not naman given to me as a gift but some fans migrated abroad and some of them couldn’t take care of their pets anymore so I took over. So not one of them was bought. My oldest is Bobby, she’s a Yorkie and she’s 12 years old na. She took her rescue to a vet and last March, the lucky aspin was adopted after being featured in a adoption drive by local rescue organization, Project Kuna. </p><div><br/></div><p>As the daughter of actor Rey &quot;PJ&quot; Abellana and granddaughter of the late veteran actress, Delia Razon, Carla entered showbiz with her titular role in the Philippine adaptation of the hit Mexican telenovela<em> Rosalinda</em> where she was paired with her then first love team partner Geoff Eigenmann.  This was followed by regular main roles in various primetime series in the kapuso network. She was most recently seen earlier this year in the family drama <em>Widow’s War </em>which also starred Bea Alonzo. </p>
