<p>Taking up painting and drawing at the young age of three, Solenn Heussaff finally discovered her own style when it comes to art when she turned 18. Heussaff’s familial roots are in the town of Paete, Laguna. While she grew up elsewhere, she spent her childhood surrounded by the carved objects of local sculptor Fred Baldemor. She connected with his niece, Charming Baldemor, also a carver. Heussaff designed an intricate frame, executed by Baldemor to play out a metaphor on the word &#x27;carve.&#x27; In the portrait, the lady is undressing, removing a layer of traditional Filipino clothing. It is a gesture that signifies the modern Filipina’s ability to carve her own path, unafraid of change, defying what is expected of her.
