<p>MANILA, Philippines — Veteran director Jose Javier Reyes was reappointed as the chairman of Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP). </p><p>FDCP made the announcement on Tuesday, July 15, through a press release uploaded on its <a href="https://www.fdcp.ph/updates/direk-joey-reyes-reappointed" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">website</a>. I know that the time is limited and the problems seem to be insurmountable, but that is the challenge, and I love challenges, and I am so lucky to have a team that is equally motivated to face them,” said Reyes, who is poised to oversee the next three years of FDCP.</p><p>Reyes is a professor, writer, director, and actor. Fondly called Direk Joey, he brings with him the wisdom and experience gathered from over four decades of being in the industry. He has won several awards and has many notable works under his name.</p><p>&quot;Having utilized his industry know-how and hands-on experience, Chairman Reyes focused on advancing key ongoing initiatives, including the construction of the Agency’s new office, and strengthening the FDCP’s commitment to equipping filmmakers and audiovisual workers with the skills and means to become world-class,&quot; the press release read.</p><p>The FDCP was established in June 2002 by virtue of RA 9167 and is under the Office of the President. According to its official website, it is “the national agency in charge of creating and implementing policies and programs to ensure the economic, cultural, and educational development and growth of the Philippine film industry.” </p><p>It aims to encourage the film industry to create quality films — from development to production, to distribution and exhibition — and to conduct film-related events that enhance the skills of Filipino talents.</p>
