It is worth mentioning that her films have received criticism, particularly from high-brow critics.</div>“Maraming nagtatanong kung bakit lagi raw maraming nanonood ng pelikula ko. Just like last year, nakakatuwa na ang ‘And The Breadwinner Is’ ang naging top one sa lahat ng entries sa Metro Manila Film Festival. So, maraming nagtataas ng kilay, maraming nagkukuwestiyon. Bakit daw maraming nanonood ng pelikula ko,” she shared. “Para sa mga ilang kritiko, para sa ilang mga feeling mas magagaling pa sa kritiko, sa mga uma-arteng kritiko, ang mga pelikula ko raw ay walang kwenta, walang katuturan, slapstick, katsipan, puro kabaklaan, puro kabaduyan, bakyang-bakya.”Highlighting her close connection with the masses, she added, “Pero bakit patuloy na pinipilahan ang mga pelikula ko? Dahil ang mga pelikula ko po, kahit hindi masyadong pumapasa o hindi pumapasa sa panlasa ng mga kritiko, ang pelikula ko ay nagsisilbing pangtakas ng napakaraming pangkaraniwang masang Pilipino. ‘Yung pelikula ko po ay ginagamit ng napakaraming masang Pilipino para maging instrumento para sila ay tumawa panandalian, tumawa’t humagalpak hanggang sa makalimutan nila ng ilang segundo kung ano ‘yung masakit, malungkot, at mahirap na sitwasyon ng kanilang pamumuhay araw-araw.”She then stressed that, despite high movie ticket prices, the masses still choose her.“Maraming Pilipino na patuloy na pumupunta sa sinehan para silipin at panoorin ang pelikula ko at pagtawanan ako para kahit papaano [ay] makalimutan nila ‘yung lungkot. Para kahit papaano [ay] makalimutan nila ang [marami] nilang problema. Para kahit papaano [ay] makalimutan nilang malapit na silang mawalan ng pag-asa rito sa Pilipinas. Kahit ang mahal-mahal na ng pelikula,” she said.The &quot;It&#x27;s Showtime&quot; host added, “Ang hirap ng buhay nila, konti lang ang pera nila pero nanonood pa rin sila ng sine. Lalong-lalo na ng pelikula ko. Kasi gusto nilang tumawa. Ayaw nilang magpakakritiko at masyadong mag-isip sa panonood ng pelikula. Gusto na lang nilang tumawa. Kasi ‘yun ang magpapatawid sa kanila para bukas [ay] buhay pa sila. Para bukas, gusto pa nila ulit tumayo. Para bukas, may inspirasyon pa rin sila.”According to Vice, her affection for the masses will endure.“Kaya walang hanggang pasasalamat ang gusto kong ibigay sa masang Pilipino dahil ‘yung masang Pilipino talaga ang labis-labis ang pagmamahal sa akin. At naniniwala rin ako na kaya ang mga Pilipino, ang maraming masang Pilipino ay nanonood dahil ako at ang masang Pilipino ay may ugnayan. Dahil sa araw-araw nilang panonood sa akin sa ‘It’s Showtime’ sa loob ng 17 years, nakabuo ako ng isang magandang ugnayan sa masang Pilipino,” she humbly shared.She continued, “Ako at ang masang Pilipino ay may relasyon. Kami ay nagkakaunawaan. Iisang wika o lengwahe ang sinasabi namin. Iisa ang trip namin. Ang relasyon ko sa masang Pilipino ay parang pangkaraniwang relasyon sa araw-araw. May love-hate relationship pero hindi kami nag-iiwanan. Iniisip ko sila lagi. Inuunawa ko sila lagi at inuunawa rin nila ko. At araw-araw, nagmamahalan kami. Kaya naman, tuwing may pelikula ako, lalong-lalo na sa Pasko, kami ang nagkikita. Kasi, ako at ang masang Pilipino ay pamilya.”Vice also thanked Star Cinema, ABS-CBN, and her previous directors during her speech at the 8th Eddys, which took place at Newport World Resorts.
