Vilma Santos express dismay in alleged corruption in flood control projects

<p>Star for All Seasons and Batangas Gov. Vilma Santos has expressed disappointment over alleged corruption involving flood control projects, saying Filipinos will ultimately bear the cost.</p><p> “Siyempre, I am not happy. Because at the end of the day, hindi sila ang mamromroblema. Pilipino ang mamomroblema,” Santos said during the launch of “Vilma Santos, Icon” in Pasay City, Friday. “I am not being self-righteous. I am not saying tama ako. I am no saint, but I am definitely not the devil.”</p><p>She urged officials to adhere to three principles in governance, saying: “Follow the law, be accountable to your people and be transparent. Sundan mo lang tatlong ito and you are on the right track. Nangyayari pa rin sa manggagawa,” she said, referring to her role as a labor activist in the 1984 film. “To be truthful, nangyayari sa pelikula, nangyayari pa din. Magulo pa din.”</p><p>She added that her portrayals in movies about workers’ rights, HIV/AIDS, and autism gave her a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by marginalized communities.</p><p>“I was given a chance, mga ginampanan ko naging salamin ng nangyayari sa lipunan,” she said. “Ito malaki natulong real life sakin sa pagiging public servant.”</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/entertainment/showbiz/celebrities/2025/4/17/vilma-santos-among-first-to-visit-nora-aunor-s-wake-1733">Vilma Santos among first to visit Nora Aunor’s wake</a></div><p>The roles are reflected in her book Vilma Santos, Icon, a collection of essays on cinema, culture and society.</p>
