<p>MANILA — The Court of Appeals (CA) has rejected the motion for reconsideration filed by Television and Production Exponents Inc. (TAPE) in relation to the copyright infringement case filed by television hosts Vicente &quot;Tito&quot; Sotto III, Vic Sotto, and Joey de Leon, collectively known as TVJ.</p><p>In a statement released by Senate President Sotto&#x27;s office, the CA affirmed that TAPE was not the owner of the audiovisual recordings and jingles of the variety show &quot;Eat Bulaga!&quot; and had used these without the consent of their rightful owners.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/entertainment/12/06/23/ipophl-cancels-tapes-eat-bulaga-trademark-registration"><strong>IPOPHL cancels TAPE&#x27;s &#x27;Eat Bulaga&#x27; trademark registration</strong></a></div><p>The appeals court ordered TAPE to pay P2 million for temperate damages, P500,000 for exemplary damages, and P500,000 for attorney&#x27;s fees.</p><p>&quot;The decision upholds the earlier ruling recognizing TVJ as the copyright owners of the materials in question,&quot; Sotto&#x27;s office said.</p><p>In December 2023, the Intellectual Property Office (IPOPHL) cancelled the registration of TAPE, Inc. for the trademarks &quot;Eat Bulaga&quot; and &quot;EB.&quot;</p><p>The three hosts announced their departure from &quot;Eat Bulaga&quot; on May 31, 2023, amid a dispute with the owners of TAPE Inc.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/entertainment/12/06/23/tvj-call-on-tape-to-respect-ipophl-decision"><strong>Tito, Vic and Joey call on TAPE to &#x27;respect&#x27; IPOPHL decision</strong></a></div>
