Kristin Cabot says she faced intense backlash from women after viral Coldplay ‘kiss cam’ video

Kristin Cabot has broken her silence months after a viral moment at a Coldplay concert led to intense backlash online, especially from women, saying she felt unfairly judged and called for more compassion.  Kristin went viral in July 2025 after she was caught on a “kiss cam” with former tech CEO Andy Byron while the band performed “Yellow”. In the clip, the two were seen embracing before Andy quickly ducked out of frame and Kristin covered her face, prompting the band frontman Chris Martin to joke that they might be having an “affair.” <div><iframe src="https://www.facebook.com/plugins/video.php?height=476&amp;href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2FNYPost%2Fvideos%2F1003336301722535%2F&amp;show_text=false&amp;width=267&amp;t=0" width="267" height="476" style="border:none;overflow:hidden" scrolling="no" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen=""></iframe></div>The video quickly spread online, drawing millions of views and sparking speculation about their relationship. At the time, both held executive roles in their tech company, Astronomer, and later stepped down following the controversy. In an interview with Oprah Winfrey on The Oprah Podcast on March 17, Kristin explained why she chose to speak out after months of staying silent. “By remaining silent, it would somehow [mean that] we are accepting what happened. There&#x27;s a lot of people out there that have experienced something similar that did not either have the strength to come forward, or [were] too traumatized or lost their lives due to some of the things that I have experienced. I feel a sense of responsibility for those people to speak out and share what it is like when people carelessly comment and the damage it can do.” Kristin said that at the time of the concert, she was already in the process of divorcing her husband and believed Andy was in a similar situation. She shared that their connection started on a personal level after she knew that he was also going through a divorce with his wife.  According to Kristin, however, it turned out that he was not being honest. &quot;I ended communication with Andy in mid-fall. There was a big miss on honesty and integrity. He wasn&#x27;t the person he represented himself to be to me. And lying is a non-negotiable for me,&quot; she said. &quot;He missed the mark on being as honest as he could have been with me,&quot; Kristin added. Asked if Andy was truly separated at the time, Kristin declined to fully disclose details, but maintained her belief then. “I want to be really careful because the world spoke for me and on my behalf, and I don&#x27;t want to do that to someone else and their family. I don&#x27;t feel really comfortable. But I will say a lot of what was represented to me was not true,&quot; she said. “So you believed when you were standing with him at the Coldplay concert that he was separated,&quot; Oprah said. &quot;Absolutely. Zero doubt,&quot; Kristin replied. Kristin also opened up about the backlash she received, saying she faced intense criticism, harassment, and even death threats after the video went viral. She noted that what surprised her most was that much of the criticism came from women. “That was to me the most upsetting piece of all of this. I had no idea how unwell we are as a gender still... I don’t know women that tear each other down. That’s not been my own experience. At work, I’ve been really intentional about the women that I work with, bringing them along and giving opportunity, mentoring and helping them. It was such a shock to me. I think I was told that 90 percent of the online comments and hate came from women. Every single interaction I had in person, and there were many, were all women.” She said she became the face of negative labels online, with people calling her names like &quot;woman who will take my husband,&quot; while questioning her character.  “Every single part of my physical appearance was picked apart. There were stories about every single [piece of] jewelry I was wearing, who bought it for me, how much it cost,” she said. “Everything about how I look, how I was dressed, how I behave, to ‘sleeping my way to the top’, to ‘gold digger’, and all the words used, [with people naming me as] ‘the husband’s stealer.’”She added that the public reaction toward her was different compared to Andy, noting that her achievements were also questioned.   “It was like, the man has no role in this. For me, I was the face of all of this. There was no one talking about Andy&#x27;s hair, shirt, watch.”  “It was unfathomable that I might’ve achieved and worked and hustled and built a career I am incredibly proud of. That was not on the table,” she emphasized.  Kristin acknowledged that the situation stemmed from a mistake and said she has taken responsibility for it. “Absolutely. I’ve been telling anyone who will listen about the poor decision that I made. I’ve paid an unimaginable price for that. That was also why I chose to leave my job, because I’ve put the company in a position, given how viral and toxic this became, a position it can’t come back.” Before ending the interview, Kristin shared a message, saying she hopes people will be more mindful of the impact of online judgment. “I want people to know that I am just a regular person. I’m a private person. I didn’t ask for this. I didn’t ask to be famous and I have no experience in all of this. I am just a mom that takes my kids to school and tries to juggle work and parenting. I am someone’s daughter and sister and friend. I really want people to understand what happened and what harm it does to real people’s lives when you mindlessly fuel a fire like this. It’s incredibly dangerous...Be kind.”
