Miguel Vergara speaks out on LGBTQ+ family and acceptance: ‘It should be normal’

<a href="http://pbb.abs-cbn.com">Pinoy Big Brother Celebrity Collab Edition 2.0</a> 4th runner-up Miguel Vergara opens up about his family’s story, sharing how his siblings are part of the LGBTQ+ community.Miguel opened up about his family dynamics during his stay inside the PBB house, describing them as both supportive and beautifully diverse. He shared that his eldest sister is a lesbian, his second sister is straight, and his brother is bisexual, playfully likening their dynamic to the 2013 Girl, Boy, Bakla, Tomboy movie of Vice Ganda.The same story was revisited in his recent guest appearance on the show Fast Talk with Boy Abunda, where Miguel stressed that even with their diversity, his family is still just like any other family. Speaking with PUSH ABS-CBN, Miguel further expressed why he chose to share this story. “Kaya ko po na-share yung story ko po na yun about my family dynamics dun kay Tito Boy kasi I want it to be normal and it should be normal,” he explained. “Kasi para sa akin po there’s no point in being, parang ayaw mo or there&#x27;s no point in not being open about it kasi it’s normal and it should be normal. It shouldn&#x27;t be on a pedestal and hindi dapat sila tinatapakan—they should be treated as normal people,” he added.He poingted out that people are more than labels. Miguel emphasized how their family is grounded in acceptance, expressing his full support for each of his siblings and their happiness.“Kaya ko po sinabi ‘yun kasi ‘yung mga ate and kuya ko nung mga time na ‘yun syempre nakaka-face po sila ng ganung klaseng discrimination. Ngayon, mas naging proud pa ako sa kanila kaya ko shinare sa PBB and kay Tito Boy po kasi my siblings wouldn&#x27;t be my siblings if it weren&#x27;t for their preference or the way they talk, the way they dress, the way they find love,” Miguel said.He also emphasized that no one has the right to dictate what brings happiness to others, adding that this is the message he hopes viewers take away from his story. “Wala po tayo sa role para sabihin na ang happiness po nila is ‘yun, and ngayon ang gusto ko lang po malaman po ng mga manonood po na it’s normal to be who they are.”Miguel also highlighted the importance of promoting understanding and inclusivity as a public figure, noting that his goal is to inspire positive support and acceptance from others.“Para sa akin po kasi ngayon na mas malaki po yung platform ko po syempre mas gusto ko na i-influence pa ‘yung mga tao in a good way. So ngayon po kinuwento ko po ‘yun para malaman po nila na kahit ako or siguro kasi na realize ko now na there are people na ina-idolize po ko.” he said. “So ngayon gusto ko po yung mga sumusuporta po sakin is all positivity—no negativity.
