Ate Gay stays positive amidst battle with cancer: ‘Gusto ko pa mag-90’

<p>Comedian Ate Gay, whose real name is Gil Morales, shared how she is able to keep a positive outlook in life despite battling her stage 4 cancer diagnosis. In an interview with Karen Davila earlier this week, she recalled how a doctor told her last year that she wouldn’t even make it to 2026.</p><div><iframe width="913" height="543" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/7rzfuBzjINY" title="ATE GAY: “I WANT TO LIVE! “ The Angels In His Stage 4 Cancer Journey | Karen Davila" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen=""></iframe></div><p>Eight months into 2026, Ate Gay continues to fight for her life as she undergoes continuous treatment for her mucoepidermoid carcinoma, a type of cancer that usually affects the salivary glands. </p><div><br/></div><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/entertainment/showbiz/celebrities/2025/12/2/ate-gay-rushed-back-to-the-hospital-due-to-side-effects-of-chemotherapy-1357"><strong><u>READ: Ate Gay rushed back to the hospital due to side effects of chemotherapy: ‘Di makakain dahil sa daming singaw’</u></strong></a></div><div><br/></div><p>She credited everyone who helped her throughout the process and described how unreal it was seeing various people from all walks of life help her out as much as they can. </p><p>“Totoo pala yun eh. Pag gumawa ka ng mabuti, ibabalik sa’yo ni Lord,” she said.</p><p>Ate Gay recalled how she also was in disbelief about her previous doctor’s diagnosis since she wasn’t feeling any pain despite the huge lump she had on her neck prior to her treatment. </p><p>“Hindi ako natakot. Umiyak lang ako dahil nalungkot ako sa sinabi ng doktor na para namang hindi totoo,” she admitted.</p><p>She was referred to the Asian Hospital and Medical Center in Muntinlupa City, which is where she has been getting her treatment until today. She underwent the Cyberknife treatment which allows radiation to directly hit the spot of her body where the cancer is found, and the lump on her neck reduced a lot. </p><p>Despite having stage 4 cancer, Ate Gay continues to perform every night. Habang kumakanta ako, nakatulala sila. After ko kumanta, [sinasabi ko] buhay ako. Buhay ako, hindi ako patay. Tapos pumapalakpak sila ang sabi ko wag niyo akong palakpakan, palakpakan niyo si Lord–– ang galing galing niya,” she shared.</p><p>Ate Gay maintained that she isn’t wasting the life that was given to her, making sure that she lives her best life. </p><p>“Lumaban kasi naniniwala ako na pag patay ka, patay ka na. Kaya yung buhay, dapat ienjoy. Hangga’t buhay ang tao dapat masaya. I-enjoy ang buhay, i-enjoy ang bigay ng Diyos, i-enjoy ang makulay na daigdig na gawa Niya, i-enjoy ang makulay na entablado na bitbit ko hanggang ngayon,” she said.</p><p>As she turns a year older this August, Ate Gay is hopeful that she will overcome cancer and live a full life.</p><p>“Yung 2026 na sinasabi na di ako aabot, biruin mo ilang buwan na–– 8 months. At aabot pa ako ng next year. Gusto ko pa mag-90,” she ended.</p>
