Kim Chiu on handling hard-earned money

Twenty years in show business have taught Kim Chiu plenty, and one lesson she keeps coming back to is knowing how to take care of the money she worked hard for.The Kapamilya actress talked about money habits during a press conference for money transfer app WorldRemit, for whom she serves as brand ambassador.Kim admitted that when she was just starting out, her only plan was to set aside as much as she could. But as she got older, she realized that saving alone was not enough. Money, she said, has to be put where it can grow – and it has to be watched closely, because it can disappear just as quickly as it comes in.&quot;Ako naman, nu&#x27;ng bata ako, nu&#x27;ng nagsisimula ako, ang nasa isip ko talaga, ipon, ipon, ipon. Pero ngayon na tumatanda ka na, iniisip mo, ipon ka nang ipon, pero dapat maging responsable ka sa ipon mo,&quot; she told <a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/entertainment/showbiz">PUSH ABS-CBN</a> during the presscon.&quot;Dapat marunong ka mag-save, mag-invest, mag-budget at ilagay mo sa tama &#x27;yung pera mo kasi ang pera madali lang siya mawala. And siyempre, &#x27;yung opportunities madali lang siya mawala. So dapat pangalagaan mo talaga &#x27;yung pera mo and kinita mo,&quot; she added.The actress was also asked how much she would send her younger self if that were possible. She answered with a joke first.&quot;Sana noon pa. Bakit ngayon lang?&quot; she said, laughing.&quot;Grabe. Siguro, panimula na lang. 1 million,&quot; she added.But her tone softened as she thought about it more, and she said she was doing fine back then even without the extra help.&quot;Siyempre kung ako &#x27;yung papipiliin, mukha siyang tunog OA pero parang okay pa naman ako noong bata ako,&quot; she said.Kim believes she would not have the same drive today if money had come easy to her early on. The struggle, she said, is exactly what pushed her to work the way she does now.&quot;Kasi hindi naman ako magiging ganito kasipag and ganito ka-hungry, ganito ka-eager sa gusto kong marating, kung meron na ako noon,&quot; she said.&quot;Kung madali ang buhay noon, hindi siguro ako ganito ngayon,&quot; she added.She also pointed out that asking for more when you already have everything does not sit right with her. What makes success sweeter, she said, is knowing you earned it yourself.&quot;Kasi if you have everything, sobra sobra na siguro kung manghingi ka pa ng sobra. Parang sobra na siguro kung magkaroon ka pa ng sobra,&quot; she said.&quot;Pero maganda rin na kung ano ang meron ka ngayon pinaghirapan mo para &#x27;pag nakita mo siya with your own eyes, parang &#x27;Uy akin &#x27;to, akin &#x27;yan,&#x27;&quot; she added.&quot;Mas masarap ang success &#x27;pag niyayakap ka ng hard work mo. Greedy ka na masyado kung sobra sobra ang meron ka,&quot; she continued.At the same press conference, Kim was asked what she thinks success really comes down to. For her, it is about being responsible with whatever opportunity lands on your lap – and staying thankful for it.&quot;[Kapag] binibigay naman sa&#x27;yo ang isang bagay, hindi mo naman alam kung magiging successful ka o hindi. Parang ganu&#x27;n naman &#x27;yun. Nasa work ethics mo at pagiging responsable mo, kung paano mo palalaguin ang proyekto o blessings na ibinigay sa&#x27;yo,&quot; she said.&quot;Nasa sarili mo na &#x27;yun kung magtatrabaho ka nang maigi, magiging grateful ka sa paligid mo, pagbubutihin mo &#x27;yung work mo,&quot; she added.&quot;&#x27;Yung success is just the outcome of how you work and how you handle &#x27;yung binigay sa&#x27;yo. Success kasi is the result na of your hard work,&quot; she continued.
