Alex Gonzaga reveals having developed gestational diabetes as she details her pregnancy journey

<p>Alex Gonzaga has opened about her pregnancy journey, revealing that she developed gestational diabetes before welcoming her first baby with husband Mikee Morada.  </p><p>In her latest YouTube vlog titled <em>My Pregnant Life, </em>the actress and content creator took fans through her pregnancy, from her second trimester to giving birth this August. </p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/entertainment/showbiz/celebrities/2026/8/28/alex-gonzaga-welcomes-first-child-with-mikee-morada-1534" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"><strong>READ: Alex Gonzaga welcomes first child with Mikee Morada</strong></a></div><p>Alex first shared that she was placed on total bed rest in late June after doctors found a small opening in her cervix. During that time, she made sure to get the rest she needed while also enjoying some of her pregnancy cravings. </p><p>One of those cravings was kare-kare sent by her neighbor, Pauleen Luna-Sotto. </p><p>“[Nag-text] ako sa kaniya nung isang araw. ‘Yun pala nasa ibang bansa siya. Pero nagpadala pa rin siya...mabait siyang kapit-bahay. Ang sarap kasi nito talaga,” Alex said, referring to Pauleen and her kare-kare recipe. </p><p>Throughout her pregnancy, Mikee remained by her side, accompanying her to check-ups, getting her food cravings, and sharing meals with her.  </p><p>At the start of her third trimester in July, the couple also had an intimate baby shower hosted by Mikee’s parents, bringing their family and relatives together for a fun celebration. </p><p>Despite being just over a month away from giving birth, Alex still found time to work and go live on social media to promote products.  </p><p>“Syempre, priority si baby, pero kaya naman. ‘Yung reason kung bakit ako nagli-live lagi is because ayokong ma-feel na hindi ako functioning or hindi ako working. Praise God, hindi naman ako sobrang bed rest dapat, kailangan lang ng rest. [Hindi naman ako nagb-bleed] by God’s grace,” she maintained. </p><p>Mikee even joined Alex during some of her live-selling sessions, making the work-from-home moments something they could share together. </p><p>The couple also had an at-home ultrasound service at one point, allowing their family to experience the excitement with them as they watched real-time images of their baby. </p><p>As Alex continued through her pregnancy, she also experienced a moment that led her to pay closer attention to her blood sugar. </p><p>By late July, Alex documented herself becoming emotional after her blood sugar spiked. While monitoring her levels before and after meals with Mikee, she could not help but cry as she worried about her baby. </p><p>In the caption, Alex said they had found out that she has gestational diabetes. She also maintained that her last Oral Glucose Tolerance Test that checks how the body processes sugar, initially showed that her sugar was normal. </p><p>According to the International Diabetes Federation, gestational diabetes is a type of diabetes that develops during the second or third trimester of the pregnancy linked to hormonal changes. It is usually temporary and often resolves after the mother gives birth. </p><div><br/></div><div style="text-align:center"><span class="fr-img-caption fr-fic fr-dib" style="width:660px;display:block" width="660"><span class="fr-img-wrap"><img src="https://od2-image-api.abs-cbn.com/prod/editorImage/1788088534283Alex emotional on gestational diabetes.png" style="width:660px;display:block;height:auto" class="fr-fic fr-dib" width="660"/><span class="fr-inner"><em>Photo Credit to @AlexGonzagaOfficial on Youtube</em></span></span></span></div><p>After they knew about the condition, Alex then made an effort to be more mindful of her food intake, choosing minimal rice and less sugary food while focusing on whole foods. </p><p>As she continuously monitored what she ate, Alex eventually saw her blood sugar decrease.  </p><p>“I’m happy because my sugar is mababa na. Nagmo-monitor kami. I’m very happy. Alam niyo parang si Lord lang talaga ‘yung nagsabi sa akin to check my sugar kasi wala namang [lumabas sa initial result],” she said. </p><p>“Basta iba lang ‘yung feeling ko na sobra akong nagca-crave ng sugar tapos sobra akong matamlay, sluggish, tapos biglang naisip ko lang na mag-check ng sugar. Doon ko lang na-realize na tumataas ‘yung sugar ko,” she added. </p><p>After visiting her doctor, Alex said she was thankful for her faith and for the guidance that led her to check her blood sugar and discover the spike, allowing them to address it and prevent further complications for her and her baby. </p><p>“I consider it the Holy Spirit or the Lord reminding me [and] guiding me,” she maintained. </p><div><br/></div><div><iframe width="913" height="543" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/0g0j5j6CdtM" title="My Pregnant Life by Alex Gonzaga" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen=""></iframe></div><div><br/></div><p>Beyond these moments, Alex and Mikee also made sure to enjoy the little things as they prepared to become parents. </p><p>The vlog showed glimpses of their time together at home, including the couple singing lullabies to their baby. </p><p>Alex also documented opening baby gifts with her friends and Mikee, as well as preparing the baby&#x27;s room before the little one&#x27;s arrival. </p><p>Then, after months of anticipation, Alex welcomed her firstborn this August. </p><div><br/></div><div style="text-align:center"><span class="fr-img-caption fr-fic fr-dib" style="width:660px;display:block" width="660"><span class="fr-img-wrap"><img src="https://od2-image-api.abs-cbn.com/prod/editorImage/1788088510622Alex giving birth.png" style="width:660px" class="fr-fic fr-dib" width="660"/><span class="fr-inner"><em>Photo Credit to @AlexGonzagaOfficial on Youtube</em></span></span></span></div><p>Toward the end of the vlog, Alex, along with her family, went to the hospital at the time she was scheduled to give birth.  </p><p>With Mikee by her side in the delivery room, Alex welcomed their first child.  </p><p>“Baby’s out! Thank you, Jesus!” her caption read.  </p>
