The three joined a pre-event press conference where they thanked their teachers and also shared how important their teachers were in their life.Jed Madela, who is recognized both locally and internationally, said his teachers have become a significant part of his musical journey. He recalled that when he was in elementary in Iloilo, he was a shy student, but his teachers motivated him to join singing competitions.“My teachers were the ones who encouraged me. Sila &#x27;yung nag-ayos sa akin. Sila &#x27;yung naghanap ng minus one. I think that’s one of the reasons why nailabas ko potential sa pagkanta. It was encouraged by a teacher,” he said.Madela now lends his voice to Gabay Guro for over a decade now, joining provincial tours and national events to honor teachers.Jona, among the most popular singers in the country, also recalled that her teachers encouraged her to sing while she was in elementary. But one teacher stood out in high school. While joining a reality singing contest, her adviser offered to let her stay at her house in Quezon City so that Jona can both attend class and join the competition at the same time.Jona said she lived in Rizal and studied in Cubao, so it was really difficult to go to school daily plus attending activities related to the singing contest.“&#x27;Yung adviser ko po noong third year high school ako, nag-offer po talaga siya na patirahin ako sa bahay nila sa Sikatuna Village para lang po maitawid ko po na makakapasok ako sa klase at the same time makaka-attend ako activities doon sa singing competition,” she said.Jona said that teacher already passed away, but she won’t forget the generosity and care of her adviser who became like a second parent to her.Poppert Bernadas, an original member of the Ryan Cayabyab Singers, also expressed gratitude to his teachers. He remembered that it was his teacher in Davao who believed in his capacity to sing and even gave him a gift which shaped his musical career.“Binigyan ako ng CD ng teacher ko noong Christmas day, Christmas party namin, bingyan niya ako Martin Nievera CD. &#x27;Di ko po kilala nun, sabi niya pakinggan mo yan and doon ko na start idolize si Martin Nievera,” he said.Madela, Bernadas, and Jona are just some of the artists who continued to share their talent with Gabay Guro which is now on its 18th year. The program offers scholarships for teachers and trainings.Gabay Guro is an initiative to help teachers with the support of the Metro Pacific Investments Corporation, PLDT Group among many others. MPIC Chief Finance, Risk, and Sustainability Officer Chaye Cabal-Revilla is the chairperson of Gabay Guro and she said it is very important to help teachers because there is a ripple effect also on students.“We have 3,000 scholar-teachers already that are teaching all over the country in public schools. Tapos &#x27;yun may multiplier effect kasi &#x27;yun for every teacher, they will have how many classes year in, year out. I think the formative years of our kids are really with good teachers,” Cabal-Revilla said.The Grand Gathering 2025 later this month will also feature other big stars like Regine Velasquez, Erik Santos, and G-Force, among others.
