<p>Netflix announced that Marian Rivera&#x27;s<em> </em>Cinemalaya movie, <em>Balota,</em> will be streaming on its platform this January.</p><p>&quot;This is the price you pay for democracy. Marian Rivera stars in <em>Balota</em>, coming to Netflix on January 31,&quot; Netflix posted on Monday, January 20.</p><p>Fans online were quick to react to the news.</p><p>&quot;Can&#x27;t wait!! When violence erupts in their town, Emmy escapes into the wilderness, safeguarding the ballot box that holds the final election results.</p><p>In a previous interview with ABS-CBN News, Marian described starring in her first Cinemalaya movie as a great experience. &quot;I want to do it again,&quot; she remarked.</p><p>The actress highlighted that the role she portrayed in <em>Balota</em> was far from her previous roles.</p><p>&quot;I was able to do many firsts — no makeup, direk does not like [it]... Or say lines I usually can&#x27;t in films and TV series. Teacher Emmy, para sa &#x27;yo &#x27;to,&quot; she said in her acceptance speech.</p><p>The actress also recalled how Dingdong encouraged her to star in <em>Balota.</em></p><p>&quot;Thank you, dad. Kwento ko lang ng short sabi ko sa kanya, &#x27;Mahal may offer sa akin sa CInemalaya. Tatanggapin ko ba? Kakayanin ko ba?&#x27; Sabi ng asawa ko, wala pang ilang minuto sabi niya, &#x27;Kailangan mong gawin &#x27;yan, kailangan mong ipakita kung sino ka.&quot;</p>
